UK monkeys Animal Testing Oxford University
Here's a guest blog from Sarah with peta2 UK.
Oxford University in the UK officially stated that its new animal lab is complete—not so good news for the animals. Animal rights campaigners, not just around the country—but around the world, have been trying to stop plans for the new laboratory to go ahead.
You can watch the inside footage of the lab here, where the presenter thinks it's OK that way more mice, rabbits and ferrets will be experimented on than primates—because their lives are worth less...? He also thinks it's OK that the monkeys will be able to look into a corridor for the best part of their confinement! This guy can't be for real—I wouldn't put a mouse in those 'play area' cages, let alone a monkey!
Over 100 million animal experiments every year worldwide have failed to deliver cures or proven to be ineffective, with a whopping 92% of drugs that passed animal trials failed in humans.
Oxford University should cut the cave man crap and look to using more modern, humane and non-animal research methods.
Every creature with a will to live has a right to live free from pain and suffering—every day we make choices, please make sure that yours is a compassionate one.

Well what exactly did the 8% of tests that worked on humans do?
Posted by: King of Fiji at November 13, 2008 9:12 AMwhen i went to the london vegan festival there was a lecture on an activist group that are trying to convince oxford U to change the animal testing lab into a modern ethical lab that use skin cell cultres and computor generation. I think they are still fighting for it, but we should all be doing our part to help them stop the torture.
Posted by: chloe at November 14, 2008 5:25 AMI'm going to repost this. Ugh.
Posted by: Arlyn Smith at November 14, 2008 6:11 AMoh no...another torture chamber for animals. when will they learn that animal testing belongs in the Old Stone Age?
my,my,my... the university is going to lose so much money funding useless animal tests.
when will they realize that this old and not needed?
Posted by: erika at November 14, 2008 1:31 PMDisgusting. There isn't another word that can describe this. Or maybe perhaps there is-- I just can't think of one because I'm too disgusted.
I thought Universities were supposed to be doing good stuff.
In my book, ending an animals life with another failed experiment is NOT something good.
And they aren't worthless. They were put on the Earth for a reason and it's not for testing. :|
Ugh.
Mum mum went there...
And I officially refuse to go unless they close the lab by the time im old enough to go to Uni :)

I was just reading this news on the Peta Europe blog. I am so ashamed that I come from a country that thinks testing on animals is the way forward.
I'm just glad I decided not to study at Oxford, I would've been embarrassed to be associated with such a backwards institution.
