We all want to find a cure for breast cancer, but torturing animals in the name of research has proved to be an ineffective and deadly route to follow.
Many people don't know that charities like Susan B. Komen and others continue to spend billions of dollars on killing animals in tests that simply don't help women. The use of animals for breast cancer research is unreliable because of animals' significant genetic, cellular, and physiological differences from humans. Former National Cancer Institute Director Dr. Richard Klausner has stated, "The history of cancer research has been the history of curing cancer in the mouse. We have cured mice of cancer for decades, and it simply didn't work in humans." Monkeys, dogs, cats, bunnies, and other animals continue to be torn away from their mothers, be locked in cages, and have chemicals injected into them, and they are killed and cut apart as a result of these useless experiments—and the misleading results can pose real risks to human health.
The good news is that humane, non-animal research and prevention work is being conducted by Keep A Breast, Love/Avon Army of Women, American Breast Cancer Foundation, and others that focus on how breast cancer starts in women's bodies and on identifying ways to combat the genetic and environmental factors that increase the risk of developing breast cancer. I believe that this is how we will cure breast cancer—not by torturing animals in useless tests that have already proved to be ineffective.
This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, please support the humane and effective search for a cure by supporting charities that don't waste money killing animals while women die. Please visit www.humaneseal.com to find out how to help.
