Posted by Ashleigh | Permalink | Comments ( 57 ) | TrackBackWe have a very literary Free Stuff Friday for you today: Ingrid Newkirk's newest book One Can Make a Difference!
I think she explains it best in this video:
This book illustrates the fact that the desire and determination of ONE PERSON can create an entire movement and make the world a better place. YOU can make a difference! Be inspired by Stella and Paul McCartney, Russell Simmons, Kevin Bacon, the Reverend Al Sharpton, and dozens of others. You don't have to be rich and famous to help, so get out there and do something!

Hi!
I am a photographer who is a vegan and deeply concerned with animal rights... I started a wee blog a while ago just reviewing things and trying to let more people know how easy it is to live a vegan lifestyle. I am also working on my degree show at Uni and it is all about animal rights!
Here are my websites:
www.zoewinters.net = photography
http://zoewintersphotography.blogspot.com =Photo blog
http://suitableforvegans.blogspot.com = Vegan Blog
I dont really care about winning anything, I just wanted to share my blog, I'm trying to spread the vegan word in the sweetest way possible! :)
Keep Up the beyond amazing work ,
Zoë xxx
I make a difference by teaching others and using my daily actions to show how I care. When you are compassionate it moves others to act in a similar way. I make yummy vegan meals for my friends and use it as an opportunity to tell them about animal rights.
Posted by: Alexis Burnett at October 24, 2008 11:29 AMI have been a vegetarian for several years now and I believe it is a great way to spread the message of peace! It is a lifestyle that requires dedication and of course knowing that you are saving animals is the best reward. I believe the world would be a much better place if everyone was a vegetarian. I show compassion to those without a voice in order to make a difference!

Working in the ER, I see people who help me as much as I help them everyday.
Posted by: Gary Emes at October 24, 2008 11:52 AMI make a difference by being myself and leading by example. One of the best, and easiest, ways to make an impact on those around you is showing passion in what you believe in and setting an example by acting on those beliefs. Being a happy and healthy vegan just living is making a difference on those around me. Dispelling myths, showing that it is easy and can be done and talking to others on my choice not to consume animal products. Like Blythe said, being the change.

Posted by: Frances Watson at October 24, 2008 1:43 PMOh man! I went to Barnes and Noble the other day and they didn't have this book. :(
I make a difference by volunteering my time to help animals. I love and care for animals very deeply, and that's what lead me to become vegan and an animal rights activist.
I have gone all over the U.S. volunteering at organizations. My most recent was the Best Friends Animal Sanuctary in Kanab, Utah. (I live in Michigan) I went there for spring break this year with my aunt. We volunteered for a week grooming horses, cleaning, and walking dogs.
I love lending a hand to help out animals in need!
Love you Peta2!
Posted by: Amanda at October 24, 2008 3:05 PMHello! Im a middle school student.I am currently in the process of attempting to starting a animal rights club in my school. One day in class, I mentioned how gelatin is made of crushed animal bones and tendons. We got into a huge discussion on it, and a few classmates said they would never eat any products with gelatin in it again! I show my passion for animal liberation/cruelty through multiple Peta stickers on my notebooks. and just simply the way I talk to people. My agenda book is covered in anti-fur stickers, vegan and vegetarian stickers. I am planning on working with peta when I grow up, but for now I unfortunately have to stay in school to achieve good grades.

Posted by: Lisa L. at October 24, 2008 3:47 PMI started spreading animal rights around my school and got some friends to become vegetarians. I love art, and express my feelings through art, and use it to help spread animal rights awareness. It may have not been much, But I sure did show one of my friends that meat is not the way to go.
Posted by: Katie at October 24, 2008 4:16 PMI think I make a difference in peoples lives my treating everyone the way I would like to be treated
Posted by: dorothy l at October 24, 2008 5:12 PMI make a difference by educating people not being rude and pushing my vegan ideals on people. For example, a few weeks ago I met a guy who just had a lot of questions about being vegetarian, or vegan, and what kinds of things happen to animals. Guess what... he's now trying out being vegetarian!

Posted by: Donna at October 24, 2008 7:40 PMI make a difference by my personality. Peple look at me and say, "what's different about her?" and I can tell them why. I always try to help out in any way I can
Posted by: Lisa Nybe at October 24, 2008 7:55 PMHelpless animals are special...and anyone can make a difference by the choices they make in their daily lives.
Posted by: R.Miller at October 24, 2008 10:15 PMI make a difference by being compassionate. Every time I sit down to eat a meal, I know that no animals had to suffer in the making of my food.
Posted by: Stevie at October 25, 2008 12:07 AMI moved to a small town to live with my boyfriend. Unfortunately things like recycling, reducing waste/consumption, not littering, and veganism are considered "eccentric" here. So I try to be myself and be prepared to give honest, compelling answers to questions like "You don't eat MEAT?!" or "Why are you growing veggies in your front yard?". People expect me to be confrontational and try to "convert" them to my way of living and believing and are taken aback when they find I am non-aggressive. They have been much more open to listening to my answers and even trying out some things that seemed bizarre to them. I find being a fearless example and an intelligent, informed practitioner of healthy, green living make a real difference in the lives of those around me.

Posted by: Linda Pinto at October 25, 2008 2:46 PMI never believe that people are beyond bringing to vegetarianism or veganism. I myself are vegan and I think the best way to get people to help out, be it becoming a vegan or sending emails against animal fur, is to take a step back. Let those around you know what is going on, then let them decide for themselves if this is right or not. I have had failed attempts to make my family members vegan, by forcing information on them and constantly nagging. Then I stopped doing that and these family members are now starting to eat meat and fish less and less. My friends always apologise to me when eating meat around me, which shows that they are understanding that what they are doing upsets me. But I don't rush in to make them a vegan while they are feeling remorseful. i think that by saying I understand and being more accepting that they may take time before they become vegan, it brings them closer to that life-changing decision. If anyone asks, "How have I managed to be vegan for so long?" I am always proud to say that it's easy when you feel strongly and believe that you can do it. I am 15, I have been a vegan since 12, which is probably way shorter than many others, but I sure am proud anyway.
Posted by: Immz at October 25, 2008 3:53 PMMy kids are grown and gone, but I'm always there to listen when they want to call and talk, and for any friends too whenever all they need is someone to listen
Posted by: Angela Jacobs at October 25, 2008 8:40 PMI help one day a week at the elementary school.
Posted by: Kathy Scott at October 26, 2008 8:12 AMI make a difference everyday...first off i am a vegetarian.....second off. i take care of all animals....S.P.C.A. is like my second home.....I love all animals........I also educate others on how many animals they save just if they become vegetarians........Teaching people that if you are happy and healthy nobody can take you down...I also make MEAT-FREE snacks for my friends when they come over....they always like them. One day once get my degree i want to travel around the world to teach other people about being a vegen...and all about cruelty to animal and how we can stop it.
I make a difference by picking up papers that are littering the sidewalk and putting them in recycling bins.
Posted by: Judith at October 26, 2008 9:05 AMI try to make a difference by thinking of the consequences of every action I take - will it hurt people, animals or the environment?
Posted by: Little_Lotte at October 26, 2008 9:16 AMI think the best thing you can do to make this a better world is to be kind to one another. I know it sounds simple, but I believe it has a ripple effect.
Posted by: Terri D at October 26, 2008 7:01 PMI make a difference by sticking to my principles whenever they are threatened or challenged, and encouraging others to as well :)
Posted by: Amy Gackowska at October 27, 2008 6:03 AMI make a difference by volunteering in my community. I have had 2 food drives for our local shelter in the past 3 years. In each one, I collected more than 500 pounds of dog and cat food! I am currently collecting donation for bedding, houses, and toys for chained dogs in our community. When I’m not having a collection or fundraiser, I’m talking to people about animal issues. I have converted 3 people total vegetarianism, and so many others have cut down on their meat intake. I love using stickers and leaflets, also. I don’t know what I would do without them! I have adopted 3 dogs, 2 cats, and just recently, a horse. The horse was 200 pounds underweight when we got her, but she’s now fat and happy! :) I try to incorporate helping animals into every day. But that’s what I love doing!

Posted by: Ed Nemmers at November 6, 2008 5:11 PMI've made a difference by planting the seeds for potential change by giving ideas about solving serious problems out here. I've also have written to organizations such as PETA and other animal rights groups about taking on the issue of saving lobsters and crabs from being boiled alive. I told them that they should take on Red Lobster on this issue. I also wrote to Red Lobster trying to convince them to not hurt animals. I became a vegan. I try to influence others to also not hurt animals and to take on the cause. I've also wrote ideas to famous people and the government on how to solve problems of homelessness, poverty here and in other countries, getting rid of abuse in nursing homes, VA hospitals and in mental hospitals. We can all try to make a difference by just offering ideas.

I make a difference by simply caring. I help any kind of living creature whenever I can. I showed my mom the cruelty in the meat and dairy industry and now she is vegan, I also am vegan, we are both happier and healhtier for it. I believe that we have to be the change we want to see in the world.
