Cut Out Dissection Month Starts Soon! September 29, 2008
Posted by Marta | Permalink | Comments ( 30 ) | TrackBackThat's right—Wednesday, October 1st, marks the beginning of "Cut Out Dissection" month!
Dissection seems incredibly archaic to me. I can't believe some teachers are still asking students to cut up dead animals as a way to learn about life. I mean seriously, dissection sounds like something from 1958, not 2008. Plenty of alternatives to dissection exist—and would be cheaper for schools in the long run—so why aren't they being used?
Students need to speak up, that's why! Let your teachers and administrators know that you aren't OK with cutting up animals. Things will only change when people realize there's a problem. We have a great way to get you started—check out peta2's "Cut Out Dissection" month calendar! We have something for you to do each day during the month in October to help animals used for dissection.

Click here to download the calendar.
This calendar should keep you pretty occupied this month, so be sure to keep track of everything you do and e-mail us at StreetTeam@peta2.com at the end of the month for a ton of points. Five ridiculously awesome people will also win a special prize pack. By emailing in, you are agreeing to the following terms and conditions. We'll let you report in until November 7, 2008 and we'll notify winners by November 11.
One more cool thing: TeachKind is giving away The Digital Frog 2.5 from Digital Frog International—an interactive virtual frog dissection. Pass along this link to your teacher for him or her to enter to win a copy (don't enter yourself—this is for teacher's only!)! And have him/her enter quick, because the contest is over October 3rd!
Remember, you can make a difference. We hear from students all the time who've gotten dissection choice policies passed at their schools. Which one of you will be next?
♥ Marta
PS - If you haven't yet, be sure to check out "Classroom Cut-Ups".

Posted by: Patrick at September 29, 2008 10:43 PMThat is SUCH a good idea :D
Yayyy, can't wait to get started!
This is so cool! I'm going to get creative and see how I can do this, since I'm home schooled. I'm thinking about maybe giving a speech at the next meeting about alternatives to dissection, if I get permission from the headmaster. ^^
Posted by: Stevie at September 30, 2008 12:48 PMWhenever I try to see it, it's so small
so I cannot see anything that the calendar
says. Can you make a bigger version of the
calendar?
I can do all of this, except go to the conferences.
My mom can't take me, so. :(
this is great idea!!!
Posted by: vanessa at October 1, 2008 10:05 AMI will try to tell my parents so I woun't have to hurt those poor frogs.
Posted by: Courtney at October 1, 2008 10:47 AMHey Conley, You're supposed to download it and print it out. Then it will be full-sized.
Posted by: at October 1, 2008 11:36 AMwhat a great idea! im printing mine out now, its really ironic as today my teacher had a dissection planned for the class ha. i wasnt going to take part obviously.
Posted by: Lottiee at October 1, 2008 2:07 PMMy school doesn't do the whole dissecting thing, thank god. It would have been fun doing this though. I still printed out the calendar. :)
Posted by: Jill at October 1, 2008 7:54 PMOkay, i was in zoology and we had to dissect some things. Yet I talked to my teacher and these animals were not killed just to dissect them. I mean I don't know about certain things.
Posted by: payton at October 1, 2008 8:06 PMI go to a jewish school, so there's no dissecting or torture to any animals, so I guess I got lucky...
Posted by: Shifra at October 2, 2008 9:29 AMA calendar of actions is a fantastic idea Peta2!
Posted by: Little_Lotte at October 2, 2008 2:08 PMi think it's awsome u r doing this. i would love to help cut out disection, but before i can start i need an answer to a ?:
where can i get tear-off fliers, leaflets, & web banners about cut out dissection month?
i love animals, and after looking through this site i cried, and i dont cry! this a a great thing and a calender is great!!
Posted by: Tasha at October 5, 2008 8:38 PMthis is awesome but my school doesnt have anything for animal rights no clubs, foods ,disection programs. i have to eat a freaking pnut butter and jelly everyday at lunch! so i hope this calaner will help.
Posted by: sarah at October 6, 2008 6:17 AMDISCLAIMER: This is from a person who semi-believes in this cause.
Honestly, how can any of you say what is right and wrong. I have the belief that meat is murder but you still have to have protein in your diet. Cruelty to animals before they are to be packaged and supplied. When you dont agree with something dont start to push your belief onto every person you see. I know that from creating these groups that we have been able to say that the way we kill animals isnt as bad.
There are still going to be cruelty, you will never stop it. No matter how much control you have, there are sick people on this planet. I respect your right to protest things like animal cruelty, but you are not respecting others by pushing beliefs onto others.
Also, with the whole chicken and fish are ok because they are under a special category that makes them "OK" to eat even though they are meat. I find that ironic. VERY IRONIC.
Please dont take this as another reason to hate me but there are alternate methods to things like dissection. Computers are now advanced that we can do it without having to use up so many frogs. But if we kept every single thing alive, the balance of what is living and what aint now will be gone..
Posted by: Tyler at October 8, 2008 8:40 PMThis is so awesome. It will really keep me active...having a shedule. =]

Posted by: teresa diaz at October 15, 2008 9:33 AMthis is great! i just recently joined the peta street team and its a great way for me to get started. thanks!!
Posted by: Catherine at October 17, 2008 6:45 AMI started a campaigne against the inhumane slaughter of fetal pigs at my school! I'm so glad other people believe this is wrong
Posted by: Manda at October 21, 2008 2:02 PMi protested against mi school for having dissected a shark every year along wit 50 rats and bout 100 owls/ birds
Posted by: kiki at December 19, 2008 7:16 PMI don't like when people complain. At my school we don't just dissect frogs we also dissect CATS as well as many other things. It's disgusting. And although I don't really believe in anything else about PETA2 this is one thing I agree with
