MEAT'S NOT GREEN!! August 29, 2008

Oh boy, have I got a fun update for you today...

That's right, we're hitting the ground running this fall by launching our exciting new campaign, called "Meat's Not Green"!

MeatsNotGreen.jpg

All of the politicians and people on TV talk about "going green", but are you as tired as we are of so-called "environmentalists" who say they care about protecting the planet while they chomp on pieces of animals' flesh? Did they not hear that meat is the #1 cause of global warming? Well, it's time to clear things up for them!

Click here to sign our petition to add a warning label to meat packaging, so that people know that when they are buying meat, they are not only contributing to the torture of animals, but the destruction of the environment too!

After signing the petition, make sure to create your own fun label! And there are all kinds of other fun things on the site too, such as as a calculator to find out how green your diet is and a badge for posting on your MySpace or Facebook, so go wild!

Pretty awesome, right? Mine's going to say "Warning: Meat is murder for animals and the planet!"

So what is your warning label going to say?

Kewl campaign!

My label is going to say "If you eat this then you don't care about animals, yourself or the environment."

I don't think you can have a label that long.
I tried a longer one, but it wouldn't allow me to -- So I made it nice & simple: "Green = Vegetarian"

Awesome campaign!

Whenever someone asks why I'm a vegetarian, one of the reasons I tell them is for the environment!
(now I have a link to give them! woo!)

Warning: This ends up on your planet, not just your thighs!

i think that having warning labels on meat is a great idea, but i think the labels should be serious and actually state the facts like the labels on cigarette packets like 'meat is the number one cause of global warming' rather than something like 'meat sucks', it will make people take it more seriously.

Great campaign! I think if more people really thought about what meat does to the environment they would consider vegetarianism.(of course the way the animals are treated should be enough of a reason.)

I think my label would say: "Eating Flesh = Killing the Planet"

Meat is so nice though... Screw the animals!
And how is it killing the planet?! Every day cows produce hundreds of cubic metres of methane, known to be much worse for global warming and the environment than carbon dioxide. Killing these animals slows down global warming! Get your facts right before you start a campaign. By all means go vegetarian, but for God's sake, don't try and press vegetarianism onto the rest of us, too.

Hi Charlie,

I think you might be a bit confused. As you note in your comment, raising animals for food is ecologically disastrous, since the methane animals release leads the animal agriculture industry to be the #1 cause of global warming.

Furthermore, imagine just how many resources are squandered by fattening up animals, shipping them to the slaughterhouse, powering refrigerated trucks to keep their carcasses from decomposing, and so on. It's a vastly ineffecient system, and we'd be better off eating more sustainable, vegetarian options.

Thanks!
