Save the Ladybugs July 1, 2008

Posted by Pulin Modi | Permalink | Comments ( 7 ) | TrackBack

We started receiving complaints not long after The Home Depot began carrying bags of live ladybugs and praying mantises as part of its "inventory." At multiple stores, bags of insects were reportedly fried in the scorching heat, resulting in slow deaths for every animal in the bags.

Please join PETA in calling on The Home Depot to end its sale of ladybugs and praying mantises at its stores and adopt a policy prohibiting the sale of any live animals. Remind The Home Depot that animals—even ones as small as ladybugs and praying mantises—aren't merchandise and don't deserve to be fried to death in the blazing sun.

Why do they sell these insects?

I will be writing to them, all creatures deserve respect, it doesn't matter what size they are.

i just saw this today, i was at home depot buying top soil flowers, and a bell pepper plant, and saw the lady bugs and praying mantise. It turns out they sell them, because they help keep other bugs and parasites away from your garden.

That's horrible...especially since praying mantises still aren't amazingly populated. The title of this, though, made me think of the ladybugs who come to my house every year-hah! Save the little buggies!

I never heard of this before...I can't believe it. How cruel can people get?

I just wrote to the CEO of the Home Depot. It is not only cruel and inhumane, but it shows how some people are willing to do anything at all just to get money. As if it was not enough to make millions upon millions with their merchandise for houses, gazebos...and other domestic or garden related stuff but they have to include harmless , fragile creatures in this too.
