What If A Pig Said 'Woof'? June 12, 2008

Posted by Marta | Permalink | Comments ( 21 ) | TrackBack

I've always been fond of pigs. They're smart, cute, and can most definitely steal your heart (Just thinking about Babe makes me smile). Sounds pretty similar to a dog, right? So why is it that many people share their homes with dogs and fill their plates with pigs?

That's where peta2's brand-new Woof! campaign comes in. We're posing the question to people, "If pigs said 'woof!', would we treat them differently?"

I mean seriously, dogs and pigs are both absolutely adorable and should both be protected from abuse. I think you'll find it impossible to disagree with me after seeing the bit of photographic evidence below. Who wouldn't want to protect these little wonders?

So get on it and check out peta2.com/woof now! Sign the petition stating that pigs should have the same protection as dogs, grab some Web banners for your page, and take our quiz.

Think About It!

And of course, we'll be at tons of festivals and shows this summer, so be sure to stop by our booth to say hi and grab some stickers. Our MySpace page has the details of where you can find us this summer.

Who else loves pigs as much as peta2 does?

Marta

I really love this campaign! I'm always telling people how clever and cute pigs are :o) They're just like dogs, why can't people see that?

It's so hypocrytical really, petting one and eating the other. Pigs are cute, intelligant and social animals - they're so lovely.
By the way - that piglet's gorgeous! I want him/her. ^^

This brings about the whole thing about how we find it disgusting that some countries eat dogs and cats. All animals can feel and have a right to be treated with respect and love. It doesn't matter whether it's a pig, dog or fish. Society has just covered everyone's eyes to the fact that there is no difference between a loved pet and a "meat" animal.

I'm totally getting a pig when I move out. I'm gonna try to save a piggy and I'll get a dog too... I don't really know how to take care of one though... I can probably look it up online. : D
I'm buying a shirt too

This is ridiculous. Pigs aren't like Dogs at all and if you had ever worked with more than your pet pig you would realize that. Sure they're cute when they're a week old and 4 pounds, but when they get up to 150-300 lbs like they should if properly cared for everyone thinks they smell and are a nuisance. This campaign is a hoax, and if you want to be fair to everyone you will post this!

whoever said that:
Maybe thats true. But it doesn't mean that they don't have feelings... what's the difference, they're both living, breathing, creatures!

Ive always had a soft heart for pigs expecially but that maybe becuase my dog looks like a pig! She acts and sounds like one so does that mean i should roast her and eat her? certainly not! They all have the ability to love and be loved. Thinking about it brings tears to my eyes.

Hi, I have been planning on getting a pig for about a year now, I live on 2 acres so I have the room. I want to be a pig advocate and train the pig and my dog to do demonstrations of how smart and similar they are. (No one said they are similar in size.) I want to show people how smart and sweet they are and how similar to dogs and humans they are. They have the closest diet to us and we use their skin for skin graphts and their heart valves for ppl who need them. I want to know what kind of pig Candace(I think that is who posted that they have one) has? Is it a farm pig or a potbellie? I want to see if Peta2 will work with me and the pig and dog for the woof campaign, I think it would be good to have spokes animals:)

I totally support this campaign, along with the others. I just don't understand how people can justify eating any animal really, but its ridiculous that people say things like "pigs are here to be eaten" and then say "of course I wouldn't eat my dog, he's my best friend. That's just wrong." What is so right about eating any animal?
And pigs are just the cutest! They're my favourite animal ^_^

Pigs are so cute!

I used to go to a nature/farm camp and I loved visiting the piglets! They are SO friendly and cute! I remember them trying to eat my shoelaces. :D
I asked my mom if I could have one, but we didn't have the space, and they do end up growing up big.

They're soft, too, when they're little.
Kind of like peach fuzz. :3
