Free Stuff Friday: Yummy Vegan Lip Balm! May 30, 2008

Posted by Lara Sanders | Permalink | Comments ( 288 ) | TrackBack

My name is Lara and I am addicted to lip balm (and lip gloss, lip stick, etc...). I admit it—I might have a problem. I use it about 10 times a day. I feel like my lips are about to dry up and fall off if I am caught somewhere without it.

That's why I'm so excited that PETA now has its own brand of lip balms! My Lip Stuff created 5 amazing flavors for PETA—each with super cute names including: "'Go Faux'-Fabulous" Fruit Smoothie, "Animals Out of the Act" Tangerine, "Viva Las Vegans" Vanilla Bean, "Cut Out Animal Experi-mints" Peppermint, and "PETA Compassion" Fruit. The best part about them is that each lip balm contains no animal-products and is not tested on animals!

PETA_lip_balm.jpg

I'm partial to "Viva Las Vegans" Vanilla Bean, because I'm partial to anything vanilla. I've been using it for about a month now, and my lips have never felt better.

Here's your chance to win the whole set of 5 PETA lip balms! All you have to do for a chance to win is comment below on why you're against animal testing for cosmetics.

The contest ends June 13, and the winner will be notified by June 20.

Just so you know...by commenting here, we're taking that as acknowledgment that you've read and agreed to our privacy policy.

Also by commenting, you are agreeing to the following terms and conditions.

xoxo- Lara

P.S. Boys, don't think this contest is just for the ladies. Everyone appreciates soft lips!

Lara, you sound just like me - I don't go anywhere without at least 2 lip balms! My favourites are from Lush because they're cruelty-free!

So, why am I against animal testing for cosmetics? Because it's just unecessary cruelty. Fact.

I am aginst animal testing for cosmetics not just because its not fair but just because it makes no sense. Animals don't even wear make up. I would rather scientists test on me, rather than on animals just because i would have the choice to go in and be tested on, they are forced.
Animal cruelty is tacky anyways:)

I am a high school teacher, and my eighth grade students came in the other day very upset. They had learned about animal testing, and told me that they didn't think it was right that bunnies and dogs had to have shampoo and other things dripped in their eyes. They made lots of jokes mocking the companies, and I thought: this is the next generation at their best! I have been a vegetarian for years, but never really thought about animal testing. Now, thanks to these 13-year-old girls, I truly feel that companies put animals through unnecessary pain to test products.

im against animal testing for cosmetics because its wrong and sick. rabbits arent meant to wear mascara and animals are meant to be free, not shoved into a cage. if the product isnt safe enough to be tested on a person then its not safe enough for animals. they are cute enough as they are, they dont need makeup(unlike me). also its not accurate as we are not rabbits so we wont have the same results.
thanks

ok first of all animal testing is so freakin' wrong all together. but for comsmetics i find even sicker, its seriously like how conceited can we humans get. we are testing on animals to enhance are natural beauty that god already gave us. when we should really just be happy with how we look. we by no means need make up especially if we have to hurt innocent creatures in the process. make up is so nonimportant and the animals lifes are so much more important, its as simple as that.

I am against animal testing because when i buy makeup or other products i don't want to be reaping the benefits of animal torture. It's bad enough to confine these fuzzy living creatures to cages, but torturing their fur and skin with test products is just so sick and wrong. Who would even want to use products that contain such chemicals that have to be tested for safe? There are much better, natural options that are not animal tested. I love makeup but i love cats and bunnies and monkeys even more!

i'm against vivisection becasue it's primative and outdated. its been prooven ineffective by many drugs and products having to be pulled off shelves due to damage to humans, but the tests on animals came up negative. if science is making developments where it can start to find rememdies for cancer, why do we rely on something so futile? vivisection is an innefective method of "science" that we can do without.

those look fantastic

i'm against animal testing because it is completely unnecessary this day and age. there are probably machines out there that can decide if something is toxic or something. also, if you use all natural products, they don't need to be tested if they're harmful because we know already.
testing on animals won't tell us anything. they have different immune systems and just overall different bodies. some things may harm them more than it harms us, and some things may harm us more than it harms them. these tests are never 100% accurate and there is absolutely no reason to conduct them.

I'm against animal testing because I know if I were in their situation I wouldn't want to be tested on either. It's just horrible to do that to a living, breathing animal, I think there are so many advances in science that we shouldn't have to test on animals anymore. It's old and needs to stop.

I'm against animal starting because it's just wrong. Humans have no right to hurt poor animals just so they can find out if humans can and can not use make-up, lip stick, shampoo, nail polish and lotions. It's not our right to hurt helpless, harmless animals so it's not right for any other human to do it either! I am strongly against animal testing because every animal needs love, not to be stuck in a cage and in pain for the rest of it's life! Just so wrong!
I use all cruelty-free cosmetics, fragrances, hair products, nails polishes, and lotions because it's the way I feel about it. If some people need test subjects then they sould test it on themselves and not some poor baby bunny or monkey.
I really think these chap sticks are a cool way to make people realize that cruelty-free is the way to go now. I really like the "Viva Las Vegans" and the "Go Faux Fabulous Fruit Smoothie" They make my lips feel great ^^

It's so unnecessary and cruel! It doesn't make any sense at all.

people are blind and they really don't understand. I'm waiting for the day where they put a picture of the animal that died for your cosmetics or food on the actual product itself.

I mean animals aren't going to wear it,we are!No way did God say "If your scared to try it go ahead and use it on defenseless creatures". Ugh!I get headaches thinking about this stuff.=(

I am against experimenting on animals because I believe that it is inhumane and cruel. Bunnies, monkeys, cats, dogs, any animal deserves to live a happy life. These animals can feel pain and have emotions; they aren't really different from humans. With new technology people can now test cosmetics without using an animal, so why are people still testing on them?
I support PETA so much, and I love animals way too much; I would never be able to use lip balm or anything knowing that animals had to die for it.

Testing on animals for cosmetics is totally inexcusable. There is absolutely no way to justify torturing animals just so someone can have a new shade of lipstick or a new scent of perfume.

Animal testing for cosmetics is wrong because no one can come up with a valid reason as to why it's needed. Cruelty free companies, such as Lush, have proved that testing isn't need as they don't test on animals. Due to this people cannot claim that it's needed for safety reasons as Lush's products are certainly safe. These companies also prove that you don't need to test to get the best product as Lush sell better bath products than anywhere I know and it's sister company sells the best lip sugar which works as a lip balm as none of Lush's are Vegan.
It was wrong when we tested on the Jews, the Gypsies and different races and it's still wrong when we test on animals as again the only reason people can come up with is that "they're inferior" but as has happened in the past this has been proven wrong.

PS I hope the lipbalm goes on sale in the Peta store soon as it's so hard to find lipbalm that isn't tested on animals and is free from honey too.

i think animal testing is wrong because its not at all nessecary and animals are being killed and tortured for not apparent reason. animals dont even have the same reactions to products as humans do so the poor animal may be tortured with a unrealistic outcome. overall animal testing is just not my thing. i go cruelty free =]

I'm against animal testing because animals shouldn't have to suffer for vanity, especially since cruelty free alternatives most definitely exist. The barbaric practice of animal testing for ANY purpose MUST come to an end NOW.

i think we shouldn't test on animlas because we don't go testing on humans so why should animals be tested on instead they should have to try the products first we should because we can handle a reaction from the product they can't.

Animal Testing is so depressing, those poor animals have shampoo and other prouducts are applied to the mucous membranes of the animal, including their eyes and mouth!! its so wrong. i had been usuing burts bees prouducts but i can't find any liturature on whether they are animal testing free or not, and i haven't yet found something as good to replace the usual 3-4 chapsicks i have in my purse.
:) animals deserve a break, they don't want to test your mascara before you wear it just so that it wont hurt you. they shouldn't have to.

I'm against animal testing (of any kind) because I don't believe we, as just one species in a world of them, have any right to foist the painful and dangerous parts of our endeavours onto creatures that had nothing to do with them simply because we're stronger and can bend them to our will.

It's abuse, pure and simple.

oh my gosh! :D that is so amazing! i am against animal testing because it is completely and totally pointless. its not even like humans have the exact same genetics make-up as rabbits so why would we have to test our stuff on them?! seriously! plus, why would anyone want to buy something thats tested on animals when you can easily buy something that isnt? ugh, testing and dissection and everything is gross and my biology class just started dissecting today (a worm) and we were supposed to wash off and dry the rest of the dead animals (frogs, starfishes, crayfishes, fishes, grasshoppers) and I said I wasn't doing it so I need to get my alternative assignment still but it was so terrible! some sick people were calling me a wimp and crap but it is just so sick! and one person was washing a frog and they were saying "aw, its so cute, look, it has spots!" and they shoved it in my face and i started crying and people were staring at me and laughing. It was lame. I just think that testing is horrible and wrong and I dont know why people do it. Same with dissection. But yeah, winning these would be awesome definitely, but if i dont win then i will be buying them soon! :D

I am against animal testing for cosmetics becuase when you ctually think about it its gross to know your wearing those poor little animals on you. It just plain disgusting... also animal testing isnt right at all!
Animals shouldnt be treated like that and hurt badly for plaesure of for things people think they need but they dont. When people say animals where meant to be eatin or to die it gets me going because that isnt true at all. They are here for us to admire them and to bring adversity and beauty to this world.
alo the bacteria and diseases some animals carry are dangerous to us and its not worth risking or life by buying those products.

I am against animal cosmetic testing because first of all it is very unnecessary, animals do not react with products the same way humans do. it is a cruel thing to lock them up in cages and make them suffer. and for what? being born and innocent? if people want to have something tested for people, test it on PEOPLE , lock them up in cages and make them go through the things those poor animals do , just because they are not human doesnt mean they don't have hearts, souls, brains and need love.

if you really want something to be safe that you are 100% sure wont harm you, use natural ingredients to make a natural product.

i would love to get these vegan, non-animal testing lip balms because it is soo rong to test on animals! its horible that people think that its ok if something that could be dangerous is ok to put on animals, as if there not as important as people! its rong to think that another animals life is less important then your own. if you wont put it on yourself it shouldn't be put on to another liveing thing!

I'm against animal testing because of the harm they do to great animals. If companies used less chemicals and more natural elements they could save money. They could save money and use natuarl ingredients without having to test on animals. Plus you'd think having animal fat or other animal products would make the lib balm not last long just like food.

Animal testing is crazy and wrong. Nothing good comes from it. Anything that hurts more than it helps just is not a good thing. Besides, anyone that can hurt a sweet animal for a product needs to adjust their personality.

I'm against animal testing because it's not necessary and it's cruel. The suffering of innocent cats and dogs is not worth a new kind of lip stick (or other type of make up). With modern science there are many new ways to test products that don't include cruelty, so why would you feel the need to hurt animals in the proccess? The animals aren't going to be using the product, so why should they have to pay the price? Animals are different than humans and could react differently, so not only is animal testing cruel and not necessary, it also doesn't always work! Animals are too cute (not to mention, too alive) to be experimented on.

I am against animal testing on cosmetics (as well as for anything else, but that's not what you asked. lol) because I have never seen a non-human animal wear cosmetics volunteerly. Cosmetics is for people and people only, therefore innocent animals should not be the victims of horrific testing studies! If it's for people, use people!

When was the last time you used that sickeningly expensive lip color on your lips with a feeling of guilt? Probably never! Animal testing in cosmetic industry is one of the most ignored factors and many women may not even be aware about the kind of tests animals have to undergo, so that people can procure that perfect shade of red. I went to a presentation on animal testing and I learned many things. First of all, there are many alternatives to animal testing for cosmetics such as data chips where you put the chip into the computer after testing on it and it tells you the effects of the product without ever having to lay a hand on an innocent animal. Secondly, I realize that animal testing is imparitive in some medical cases such as people who suffer from lupus, but that does not give cosmetic companies an excuse to torture animals just so people can buy products to enhance their "beauty".Also, animal testing is costing your family more then $300 dollars a year. Alternatives cost a significantly less amount and produce far better results. To measure severe burns on live tissue, a pet is burned alive with a flame-thrower until the charred flesh can be removed in large pieces from while the animal is still alive. How would you feel if you were being burned alive for something as unnecessary as MAKE-UP? By buying cosmetics from testing companies, this is the fate you are forcing on adorable, defenseless animals who only wish to be loved. Another thing people need to realize is that in the physical aspect, humans differ greatly from animals and many side effects are overlooked when putting a product on the market because it doesn't show up on animals. So why torture these loving animals when there are more effective ways to gather results? Animals are so soft and forgiving that I could never imagine killing one just to produce a simple lipstick. Next time your at the store buying a product from covergirl, l'oreal, or olay, remember the pain and suffering an innocent creature had to go through to make it and think twice about the companies you choose to support. These are a few of the many reasons that I choose to say NO to animal testing. Thanks for your time and sorry this is so long :)

Animal testing is unethical. Coupled with the fact that animals do not always react in the same ways that humans do, and this testing is done by an industry that, more often than not, values profit above all else -- to the point where potentially toxic chemicals must be used instead of natural ingredients to reduce costs -- underscores the cruelty of it all.

These lip balms are soo cute, and probably tasty without the animal by-products. Here's what I think;
Animal testing was never okay to begin with. Animals should have rights just like people! They are thinking animals and you ruin trust with the animal kingdom this way. Furthermore, we don't need to test on animals for cosmetics anymore because there are so many things we know that won't harm us that we can use. Chemicals was really never the way to go, Natives can prove that. They have found so many natural cures for things. Animals should not be tested on!

ANIMAL TESTING IS WRONG, and we all know it. why should an innocent animal be harmed just so people can look good for about an hour???? besides, animals don't always react to things like we humans do. it's not worth it to let so many animals be harmed and die for just one cosmetic. we as humans need to learn that just because animals can't do some of the things that we can, doesn't mean the can't feel anything. animals love each other, so when an animal is taken from its home to be tested on, your taking it away from a family that loves it. it's so terrible that an animal(s) should have to suffer so you can look good on a date. besides, there are so many cheaper and and cruility-free options for cosmetics, that it makes no sense that other companies still test on animals. if the VO5 ect. line of products do it why can't other companies??

i am against animal testing because it is unnecessary, cruel, wrong, sick, and abysmal. animals do not want to be taken by force to have hazardous and fatal chemicals thrust in to their sensitive eyes, brains, and any other body part. it is also wrong due to the fact that just because i want to look good, animals have to die. and that is ridiculous!

im against animal testing for cosmetics because theres no point to it theres other ways to test them instead of on animals which wouldn't even have the same result as it would on humans and the only reason the test on animals instead of the other ways that are avalivble is because businesses want the cheapest way to do things cause there all like money money money thats all that is important and thats not good mostly when these animals are harmed for it

I am against animal testing because each year millions of our furry friends die because of it. I don't think that any animal should have expiremental substance forced into their bodies or pumped into their stomachs. They're are cheaper more efficient ways to test products than pumping chemicals into them in such horrific ways. But to me the most important reason I'm against animal testing is that its cruel. Plain and simple unnecessary cruelty.

I am against animal testing because it is plain mean. If companies used natural ingredients that were known to be safe for human use, they would not need testing of any king, human, animal or otherwise. Besides, when was the last time you saw a bunny shopping for make-up?

Another animal (whether homo sapien or another tribe) should have to suffer pain and torture for my selfish ends. If we cannot obtain knowledge without such misery then we live without the knowledge in peace instead.

Posted by: Brian N. at May 31, 2008 1:32 PM

First: There's no need to test those ingredients anymore. The cosmetics industry has thousands of ingredients that are already tested and with them you can create.. well, you do the math, tens of thousands of different products. That should be enough. And if you really really need new ones, test on volunteers (like me). If it's something dangerous enough that humans shouldn't test it then it shouldn't end up in any cosmetics product anyway!

Second: It's not as accurate as you might think. A rat, for example, can eat food that would make you really really sick. So why do you assume that a rat's skin is equal to human skin? (That is to say, some ingredient that works fine in animal tests, could still harm your skin.)

Third: It's just sick. Take a good look at a pic showing a rabbit with a bad eye inflammation. Just looking at it almost makes your eyes hurt. And about dogs in tests.. dogs have been seen to lead people out of fires, they've worked with us thousands of years and some have even sacrificed their lives for their owners. I guess some people haven't heard of gratitude.

I'm against animal testing because:
1) animals are people to!

I am against animal testing because it is sadistic. I mean would you like to be tested on? I would think not, so if you don't want to be tested on why are you testing on animals? People don't understand that if it's illegal to test products on humans than maybe you should consider an animal a human too because to me it's just as bad as testing products on humans. I feel that if you test on animals you should be killed.

We humans have big egos and think we can harm animals because we're better, more intelligent, are a so-called higher species, etc. We have no right to inflict harm or kill animals for our own so-called benefits. These poor, beautiful creatures are helpless and can do nothing but be subjected to our cruelty. Humans need to be less self-centered. The world doesn't revolve around us.

Animal testing is unnecessary. Are they telling us that they can send a man to the moon, but can't figure out how to make safe makeup without using animals. If they think it is unsafe, why test it on a living being to begin with? Animals shouldn't be harmed just so a woman can have bright red lips or so a teenager can look ten years older!
I am very happy that they have decided to make a few types of makeup that DO NOT have to be tested on animals.

Using animals to test cosmetics is foolish. Cosmetics are used on PEOPLE and should be tested on people. Chemical engineers involved in the manufacture of cosmetics should be able to determine that the cosmetic materials are safe for human use, and verify this on human subjects. Animals react differently, and cannot express themselves if they are suffering, unlike a human, who can say something if a cosmetic is irritating his skin. It is cruel to use animals to test cosmetics because animals cannot speak for themselves. To me that's the worst part of animal testing--animals cannot easily tell us how they are feeling.

Use people for people products, PLEASE! At least we can speak for ourselves AND make the choice to be test subjects, unlike animals.

Thank you for your efforts to end using animals to test cosmetics.

Cheers

Im against Animal Testing because it is in human and wrong. Do we really need more than one kind of shampoo or face cleanser? When you think about it and innocent animal's life was taken just so you could use that product. If that doesnt make you feel at least a little guilty then your even worse than the people testing on them. The point is why should we test on animals that never ever even tried to hurt us but only asked to be loved? If its wrong to test on a human being then why isnt it wrong to test on animals? They too are beings like us they have feelings too. Not only that but Animals have different cells and bodies than we do. Their DNA isnt the same as human DNAs animals will react why more different to medicines or chemicals than we do. We will react way more different to them too. I really dont like animal testing at all just seeing pictures make me cry. I have unusually strong bonds with animals and its sickening just watching them being hurt like that. Animal Testing is in humane and should be illegal

It's also very mean, the animals are not on the planet to eat test on or be mean to at all. Testing is just one of the horrible ways people decide to torture animals and its pointless. All you get out of testing is that a product may or maynot hurt animals (never know about humans; again, not the same systems) and and one less cute animal on earth. Why would anyone not want cute little fuzzy animals on earth? exactly.

Why against animal cruelity and testing? Disgusting. Animals are just like us and deserve to be treated right. It's alright for those scientists to test on animals - they don't get the pain. But animals do. Also what's the point of testing make-up and whatever else on an animal? When they can have different effects from the product than a human. It's pathetic. Animal testing is one of the most stupid and evil things human beings have done so far! Why would you force poor animals into somthing that not only causes them great pain but most of the time eventually kills them. I have two rats (who are very popular for testing as you may know) and they are the nicest, most lovely pets I have ever owned, but recently after a trip to the vets i found out that rats are hugely prone to get tumors because they have been bred to carry cancer for so many years especially in females! ANIMAL TESTING IS SO WRONG WE NEED TO STOP IT NOW!

I live on a farm. We love our animals as our kids. We have 2 horses that are my babies, chickens, over a dozen cats, rabbits, snakes, rats, fish. Last year my horses foundered. I cried and bawled cause I thought I was going to lose them. We walked them for 6 hours straight. Although we sometimes ride them they're part of the family. I don't like being cruel to animals. When we have cookouts the cats all gather on the baloney when my husband cooks. He always divides alittle of the meat among the cats. Are animals is part of the family. Between me and my husband we have 10 kids. I have 4 sons, he has 2 sons, and he has 4 step-children who call us mom and dad.
I believe animal cruety should be out ruled and figure out a natural way for cosmetics. I don't wear make-up but maybe 2 or 3 times a year.

why am i against it, the same reason i'm against performing experiments on them, using them for our entertainment, for fashion, for sick sport, factory farming, hunting, harvesting, and even our own consumption. cosmetics are something that are suppose to help you, look and feel better. but the fact of the matter is that in order to do that you have to kill innocent animals, not just kill, but abuse, humiliate, and hurt them, not just physically but also emotionally. it sickens me to see people who have hearts but just don't use them when it comes to this. they don't think twice about it. why should bunnies and dogs and cats and what not suffer for our needs, right, they shouldn't. not only is it cruel but by testing animals you are getting false results, animals are not human, and do not react the same way we do. there are many of other ways you can test these cosmetics. animals have compassion to us, they have never hurt us killed us or tourtured us for anything but natrual instinct. we should do the same and show our compassion towards them. treat them how we want to be treated. and i know i do not want to go through a lot of pain, lonliness, and being terrified for something as pointless and harmful to the earth as hairspray. i'm glad that peta is here to help those without a voice speak up. animal testing is only used because of the value of profit. and besides do you really want to walk around with a huge guilt trip knowing that, that stuff on your lips is from an animal. besically it's wrong because not only do we have feelings and familys but so do they, they give birth just like we do, they cry, get scared, and WANT TO LIVE, jut like we do. would you want to wake up in the morning and know you're going to get hurt and die for and by people that care nothing about you, i'd hope not. every item you stand against buying and get one more person to do the same, and they get one more person to do the same, and so on, you're saving animals lives, one by one. and when people say "oh well, they're going to die for someone elses needs if not mine, one person isn't going to make a difference" wrong thinking! SUPPLY AND DEMAND. animal testing is wrong, and should be banned in not only in america, but the rest of the world. it kills innocent compassionate creatures, without even a good cause.

I am against all animal testing beacause not only do i believe that it would be inaccurate testing, it is unfair and cruel to the animals. People are testing things on them that they wont be using!!
Why should they suffer for no reason but to make sure humans will be able to use something!?
I think it sucks and refuse to use anything tested on animals!!

I am against cosmetic animal testing because of the horrible things they do to these poor innocent animals; they couldn't care less about our make up or how we make ourselves look with it they just want people in labs to stop hurting them and I don't think it's right for people to abuse animals just so they can paint themselves up...If people want to know if a product is safe for a person to use test it on a person! Animals are not our property to be used and thrown away like trash and it's awful that this is even allowed to happen at all! It's really disgusting that people even find it acceptable to wear anything animal tested! I'd rather never wear a dot of make up ever again than to wear any that was tested on an animal!

Each year about five million dogs, cats, rabbits, rats, monkeys, and other animals die in lethal dose tests performed in the U.S. During a lethal dose test, the experimental substance is forced into the animals throats, or is pumped into their stomachs by a tube, sometimes causing death by stomach rupture or from the sheer bulk of the chemical dosage. Substances are mixed in lab chows, injected under the skin, into a vein, or into the lining of the abdomen, they are often applied to the eyes, rectum and vagina or forcibly inhaled through a gas mask. Experimenters observe the animal's reaction which include convulsions, labored breathing, diarrhea, constipation, skin eruptions, abnormal posture, and bleeding from the eyes, nose or mouth. According to statistics, 50\% of these animals will die in this experiment 2 to 3 weeks later.
The horrible fact about these incidents is that they are unnecessary as there exists cheaper, efficient and more realistic results that can be used instead of animals.

Take a stand against the inhumane treatment met out by animals in medical research by signing this petition. You can make a difference~

If you don't care for animals- then who will?

Honestly animal testing is very unneccessary. To me animal testing is like your parents forcing you to do your chores, your homework and eat your veggies. I personally like my veggies, so I don't have a problem with that. My point is, there's so many differnt alternatives to testing makeup and we should put an end to animal testing. That's all there is to it.

I am excited for healthy lip balms that don't contain petroleum or other chemicals, and that don't test on animals. I am against testing health and beauty products and prescription drugs on animals, it is vicious and harmful and a cruel explotation, and even doctors (at the Physicians fro Responsible Medicine site) say it isn't accurate to say safe for an animal equals safe for humans.

Animals do not deserve the terrible unecessary testing methods they are subjected to. If animals were meant to wear cosmetics they would be born with them. It is not only unfair, as many people that carry out animal testing only do it as the innocent animal cannot fight back or refuse the terrible treatment. How would you feel if someone did this to your dog or cat? Absolutely disgusted and angry i think!
This disguting and unfair practice is unecessary, not always effective because results can vary between different species and the effect the product will have on humans.
Animals are beautiful as they are, they do not need makeup. We need to appreciate them alot more than we already do.
BAN ANIMAL TESTING NOW!

animal testing is totally not needed. They don't understand what is going on and they are being tortured for no reason. There are plenty of other options and techniques to test products without even involving animals. It is unnecessary and cruel. Most of the time the results don't even result in the same ends with different animals. The maker of penicillin even stated that if animal testing was around when penicillin was developed it would have never received its license. Its not reliable, its cruel, and its not needed.

I am against animal testing and cruetly because, at the end of the day there is no need for it. We dont go round tresting other human beings like this and for myself i treat all animals as part of my family and my life. I am from England, UK and although ovr here we may nt have to cut up frogs and what have you. In my last yr of high school on a few occasions they gave us sheeps hearts and liver etc to cut up and examine. I refuse and left the class and walk out of school i obviuosly knew they gave us it to learn from but, i think its totally out of order and this is just a few of the many reason for which i am against animal cruelty.

Why I'm against testing on animals in cosmetics?

Cosmetics are made to underline our best features, cruelty is not one of them.
Seeing animals suffer from loneliness, from chemicals they don't even know about, hearing them scream, or weep for mercy...is not beautiful!

The saying says, beauty is a high cost. How much? Is it worth an animal's life. NO!
Real beauty comes from within, comes from a compassionate heart for all living creatures. Beauty is taking the time to play with your dog or cat, taking the time to cook vegan dinner for your friends to show them how delicious it is, taking the time to send letters to company's that do test on animals. That is real beauty!

Vegan cosmetics are amazing, and they are even better for our skin.
So the decision is simple. Be against testing on animals, and agree to real, hearty, vegan beauty.
With love and admiration
Annie

They test on animals because they can't speak up for themselves. If humans couldn't talk, they would test on us too. We've got enough make up, shampoo's, hairsprays, etc. already, that are taking the lives of many animals each day already.

i mean, if you were in their position, you'd hate to be tested on for US.
it's just not fair on them at all.
and worst is, that they are conscious all the way through the procedure.
they don;t deserve to be put through this pain, just so that we can have soft silky hair.. or for our skin to be extremely soft.
animals don't deserve this, and one day they might take over the world (it's possible.. maybe?) and they'll get those scientists back for what they did to them :)

Testing on animals, especially for cosmetics, is vanity, and vanity is a form of pride. I was raised in a Christian home and have been told many times that pride is an awful, awful sin. These are also the same people that tell me that God put us over the animals and that we should be able to use them. I love these people dearly, but this didn't sound right to me.

Even if God did put us over the animals, didn't He also teach us to be good stewards? That means to take care of what is ours...And how on earth is putting animals through ridiculous tests taking care of them? We live in an age where technology runs rampant: I'm pretty sure that we can find some other way to test-run cosmetics besides smearing eyeshadow on rabbits. Or are we too swallowed up in our pride, thinking that we are better than the animals and therefore should be tyrants towards them, to look ahead into the future?

I am against animal testing because its not nessisary! We should test it on humans because the animals are pretty enough already, they don't need to use the makeup (or whatever is being tested) so why should they have to test it? It doesn't make any sense to me. And it never has. Ever since i could understand that it hurt the animals to test on them, I always asked my mum to stear clear of yucky animal tested products! I'm 16 now and very happy to be cruelty free!

I am against animal testing for cosmetic because it is the biggest form of human selfishness. We sacrifice animal in order to make us "more beautiful". It is just making sense to know that you need to sacrifice animals to make us more confidence of ourselves.

I am 100% against animal testing.
I ran a booth at my schools earthfest talking about animal cruelty and there was a game where we had the kids guess if the products were tested on animals or not and we had a lot of cosmetics in our game. Kids were shocked to find out some companies that tested.
I had a favorite lip gloss and I found out they tested on animals so I stopped wearing it. Now im testing around to find one that works the same! Hopefully these do : ) I dont wear animals, dont eat animals and I dont support animal testing, ESPECIALLY in cosmetics. Test it on a human, we have the power to give an answer unlike a helpless animal. Reading information given to me on Peta has changed my life since March. You would be suprised, if you really researched, to find out something you thought was harmless was affecting and killing animals. Like I told my boyfriend tonight while he was scarfing down a dead cow, "pretend Sandi (my dog) was sitting inside that burrito, i know you wouldnt eat her." But hes a butthead and still ate it. : ( I cleaned my house out from animal tested cosmetics. Everyone should.
Now its time for some lip balms : )

I am against animal testing for much the same reasons as everyone else. It's not right, the animals can't speak for themselves to say it's not right. They were not put here for us to do so much of the mean stuff that happens to them in this world. They are life forces just like we are, with the same right to life as us. Why do we need to test make-up anyway? In a perfect world all make up would just be natural ingredients or NONE at all. Make up is overated anyway, clogs pores, adds unnecessary chemicals to our bodies, smears, and some just wear TOO much. Natural ingredients is always a better choice and requires no testing.

I am strongly against animal testing because animals were not created by God for us to test cosmetics and other products on. It is absolutely unneeded for people to test on an animal to see if a product is dangerous or not to a human because animals and humans have different skin, different organs, and different biology components.

So why would the industry waste their time and destroy innocent animals, JUST to see if the animals would react to the product? No. I don't see a valid reason. Therefore, I definately believe that animal testing is completely wrong and should stop soon.

Animal testing is one of the most horrible and inconsiderate things ever. At cosmetic labs, these people test on animals because they think that the their life is somehow more important than the poor animal who is about to be tortured. I'm against animal testing because it's simply not fair and it's mindless.

I am VERY STRONGLY AGAINST ANIMAL TESTING because I watched Petas Testing 123 video and I cried SO HARD because I have to cats and I thought about how I would feel if it were me or one of my pets. Also it is so very unnesscaecary!!! Us and animals are so different that testing on them is like testing cat food on humans. What we see it is not necessarily how they see it.

And not just cats!!! How could they waste so man poor unfortunate creatures just for us to look good?!?!? I would go ugly just so they would stop testing on animals. Its cruel and stupid. How do they live with the guilt?!?!?!?!? This is just a few reasons why its stupid and we need more vegans.

With so many available resources and access to education about ingredients, that are in turn then tested on animals, it just does not make any sense as to why these horrible actions can be considered the best avenue by some. There are different ingredients that can be used that are better for humans and DO NOT need to be tested on animals. If it's all natural, then we should know the effects and if we are not confident with the effects, then we should not be trying to sell it in the first place.

If animals could choose to be anywhere, I highly doubt that they would choose to be in cages having make-up dropped in their eyes and other orifices. We have no right to force fur-babies to be test subjects for us. Test it on the animals that plan to use it - humans! I can tell you, it wouldn't be long before a human would say, "Don't be dropping that in my eyes, are you crazy?" We at least can make the choice on whether to use the product or not.

The reason I am so anti-animal testing is simple....I adore animals, and to know that everyday animals are being treated very cruel just so someone else can appear beautiful through cosmetics? It's just wrong!

Beauty is something that's obtained through inner acceptance and begins with yourself. To use products that have been tested on defenseless animals is selfish.

Animals are people too and shouldn't be treated as if they are nothing more than experiments.

Animal testing is so ridiculous in a society that is supposedly so high-tech...these products are fantastic, and a must for me as I have 6 and 4 year old daughters who will not leave the house without their lip gloss/balm:)!

Well, other than the fact that only a morally disfunctional human being could test on a living, breathing animal, it's inaccurate and unnecessary. Seeing as humans are not in any way a scientific parallel to the animals used for testing, the results of those tests are invalid. For more info, read Sacred Cows and Golden Geese: The Human Cost of Animal Experimentation by Dr. Ray Greek and Dr. Jean Swingle Greek. Its an excellent book that really helps when you are trying to explain your position on animal testing. Check it out!

Animal testing for cosmetics is, as you know, just mean and cruel. If something is so bad that it can't be tried on humans first, then I don't want any part of it in my life!!! Animals are meants to be loved and loving , not treated in a potentially harmful way.

I'm against animal testing because if you wouldn't want to volunteer for testing, you shouldn't use an animal either. I don't think they volunteered for testing, so you shouldn't use them because they can't defend themselves or answer for themselves.

I find it extremely disturbing that people will test cosmetics on poor innocent helpless animals that have done nothing wrong. I an always extremely angry that stores will sell and even advertise any type of products that have been tested on animals, I mean the animals they test on are taken from their homes and/or bred to be tested on even though they just want to live normal happy lives like we do without being tortured and having every sort of cosmetic you can think of being forced at them and they can't do anything!! Testing on animals almost always results in the animals death wich is the exact same thing as the people who shoot other people for some reason good or bad, and those people get put in jail for it and why don't animal tortures turn killers get any punishment whatsoever?!?! It always makes me angry!! anyways I ALWAYS BUY COSMETICS (and all other products) THAT ARE NOT TESTED ON THE POOR HELPLESS ANIMALS and I would very much enjoy having these lipbalms that sound good enough to eat and I would use them always and show everyone I can that cosmetics not tested on animals always look better on you and work better!!

Why am I against animal testing? I believe it is morally and ethically wrong to torture animals in the name of "science". Most people are smart enough to realize that getting lotion/shampoo/soap/detergent in your eye is going to make it sting. No need to force it into rabbits' eyes and make them scream.

I also don't eat any animal product (after an animal has been murdered) or wear leather/fur.

animals and people are alike but you're not going to see a monkey with lipstick and eyeshadow on are you no, so whats the point in testing on them? it would be so much easier to test on people that are willing to be tested on with cosmetics. i mean think about it the companies would have better working stuff if they were tested on people because then people would know it will truly work like they say it will and there for more people would want to buy it. and i'm not against just cosmetics being tested on animals i'm against anything being tested on them.

I wholly support the new lipbalm range! I think everyone has stated all the cons of animal testing, not that there are any pro's. It's ridiculous to even think of testing products on something so defencless. It's only giving a false determination of the product considering we are composed of completely different reaction elements. If testing was unavoidable, we should be testing products on humans that have done wrong (rapists, murders etc). Goodluck with the new range!
