Free Stuff Friday: Vegan Marshmallow Maker! May 9, 2008
Posted by Ashleigh | Permalink | Comments ( 159 ) | TrackBackI was at a bonfire the other day and I was thinking about how I much I missed roasting marshmallows. Most marshmallows contain gelatin (aka - crushed up animal bones), which is disgusting!
Then I came to work and found out that we have a vegan marshmallow making kit to give away! I know there are others like me out there who are jonesing for some summertime marshmallow roasting action, and today is your lucky day!

Amy, who writes PETA's VegCooking Blog, tested the kit out and gave it rave reviews. She says the instructions are pretty simple, but you do need some special tools, namely a candy thermometer and a standing mixer. Check out the chocolate-marshmallow sandwich she made:

Want to make your own? One lucky person with a sweet tooth will win this kit from Angel Foods. Comment below with what you will do with the vegan marshmallows if you win!
This contest ends May 23, 2008 and the winner will be chosen and notified by May 30, 2008.

Wow, with vegan marshmallows I would be creating and testing out loads of new dessert recipes for people I need to convince that vegan food is delectable AND cruelty-free. The first thing I would make would be Vegan Chocolate-Banana Squares (So that you'd still be eating healthy, GO BANANA!
Posted by: Jessica Jagmin at May 9, 2008 9:37 AMi would make smores for the first time in 3 years.
WOOT
Posted by: lampsattack at May 9, 2008 10:49 AMI have an old recipe for a thing I made in middle school where the marshmellow is dyed blue and contains candy inside. It is a fun prank to pull because the dye makes their mouths change colors. But with these vegan sweet I think I may just have to rast 'em campfire style, or make smores for dessert at one of my uncle's cookouts. Plus I have been looking for a way for my mom to accept me being an almost-vegan and since she like marshmellows I want to win this and let her try it. Maybe her mind will change about hating vegetarians?
Posted by: Fala at May 9, 2008 11:12 AMIf I won, I would make vegan s'mores this summer! I could have a lot of fun with it. :))))) ^_^
Posted by: Loren Y at May 9, 2008 11:20 AMIf I win the marshmallow kit, I would definitely just eat the marshmallows plain (or maybe with a little vegan chocolate), and share them with my friends, because I'm something of a purist when it comes to marshmallows!
Posted by: Kim at May 9, 2008 11:49 AMIf I win I would make homemade vegan rice krispies treats. Yum!
Posted by: cara at May 9, 2008 12:07 PMI would be thrilled to win this kit. I have never heard of vegan marshmellows and I had no idea they existed!
I go camping ALL the time, pretty much every weekend during the summer.
Being able to take this along with me and sharing it with my family and friends, would be awesome.
I want to show them all that a vegan marshmellow tastes just as good (obviously better) than a regular one.
Having the opportunity to let them all experience it firsthand, might give them all a better insight of vegan food and how great it is.
I hope I win this. I have not won anything on here yet, and to get this? well that would just make my day! :)
I will make some sweet sweet fruit cocktail and feed it to my friends on a sleep over :)
Posted by: hector nava at May 9, 2008 12:24 PMMake a ton of 'em and use them to make rice crispy treats and turn my non-veg friends off of regular marshmallows. My younger brothers would love this, too!
Posted by: Alaura at May 9, 2008 12:33 PMIf I win the yummy vegan marshmallow kit I'm gonna stick them all over my boyfriends face!!!!!!
Posted by: heather at May 9, 2008 12:44 PMI would make loads of marshmellows and show my friends and family how nice they are! It would help me to convince them that becoming a veggie is just as great [better, actually] than eating meat!!
x
I would make marshmellows 4 all my friends to prove to then how easy it is to make creulty-free food. I also would make vegan smores this summer if i go camping. I really would use constalty for an afternoon snack.
Posted by: Hannah at May 9, 2008 1:11 PMomgosh! that sounds really awesome!! even if i don't win it, i'm DEFINITELY going to buy some!
Posted by: rebecca pisieczko at May 9, 2008 1:31 PMI will make some yummy marshmallows for my class at the highschool and introduce them to vegan things, instead of nasty non-vegan things.
Posted by: Molly McCaughey at May 9, 2008 2:12 PMIf I was to win the marshmallow maker, I would make some marshmallows for my mother, who is a Brownie guider, to take on Brownie camp so her Brownies can enjoy cruelty free toasted marshmallows around the campfire instead of ones made with ground up bones!
Posted by: Alice at May 9, 2008 2:19 PMI'm gonna be camping alot over the summer, so I would roast marshmallows, eat some, then throw the burnt ones in my friends' tents. Fun fun fun! :-P
Posted by: Aliya_da.best at May 9, 2008 3:11 PMThe real question is what won't I do with the amazing vegan marshmallows!!
Posted by: Cassandra at May 9, 2008 3:15 PMthe real question is what arnt i going to do with vegan marshmallows?!?
vegan.marshmallows.are.amazing.
they allow you to have the fluffy goodness of marshmallows without the
GROSS.DISGUSTING.INHUMANE.GELATIN.
which happens to be made from the collagen inside animals' connective tissue
is it just me or does that seem like something they NEED
back to .my.point.
VeganMarshmallows
my first order of eating would be rice krispy treats gotta love em
then maybe this AMA-Za-ZING cake my mother makes that is easaily vegan with the substiutes for marshmallows and milk
if you have not had it you have.not.lived
it would be nice to make it for my little sisters birthday which is coming up and this year maybe i can actually have a slice XD
all.in.all.vgan.marshmallows.are.fun.and.delicous
I will roast them ofcourse! But seriousley, I'll make some smores... rice krispie treats (that I havent had in FOREVER!). And probably give the recipe to friends so they arent eating broken ANIMAL bones (which is very disgusting, but they probably didnt even know! The meat industry keeps it a secret!)
Posted by: Nadia at May 9, 2008 3:53 PMIf i won the vegan marshmallow maker, i would make marshmaallows for all my friends and bring them to camp :)
Posted by: Emma at May 9, 2008 4:00 PMI'll roast roast them over a fire after a delicious vegan BBQ with all of my friends!
Posted by: Jason Levy at May 9, 2008 4:23 PMI would use a vegan marshmallows all of the time. I'm a vegeterian but I will not eat anything that an animals was killed to make, so I gave up marshmallows. I could really use this for the fondu (spelling is a weak spot for me) pot my family just got for graduation.
Posted by: Sam Kellie at May 9, 2008 4:27 PMWow!!! I have been desperately searching for some way to make vegan marshmallows for myself and my mom and sister. They have been vegatarian for about two years. Here in Mississippi however, there is no market for vegatarians (the only grocery store that carried Yves just discontinued due to lack of demand). I would try credit card internet orders but we just filed bankruptcy so it just seems silly and selfish for me to put a treat for my new vegatarian conversion before things like toilet paper. Unfortunatly, it's time for bon fire and grill season... This seems like a heaven sent proposal in the midst of all the difficulty at hand. I want to be able to have the s'more memories I had in childhood but without the cruelty.
Posted by: Emily Daniels at May 9, 2008 4:30 PMI would make Rice Krispies treats! I haven't had them in so long:(
Posted by: Felicia at May 9, 2008 4:42 PMI'd melt them so the go really soft and then stick two biscuits (vegan obviously) together with marshmallow in the middle. The same idea as oreos but better =].
Posted by: Frances at May 9, 2008 5:20 PMI'd make a vegan ice-cream sundae with the vegan marshmallows. It'd be a great treat for a hot summer day :o)
Posted by: Little_Lotte at May 9, 2008 5:28 PMi shall put them in my hot chocolate with whipped cream and cinnamon.
and then, i will microwave the leftovers in a bowl and pour chocolate syrup on them.
then if i still have some left i will make rice krispie treats.
i have big plans for these little morsels of goodness.
Posted by: lilly at May 9, 2008 5:40 PMI would invite my friends over to make s'mores to show them that vegan food dosen't taste like crap(which is so untrue, but they won't listen when I tell them it's wonderful)
Posted by: Erin at May 9, 2008 5:45 PMI will have a cruelty free marshmellow roast/pool party with my best friends =]
Posted by: hallie at May 9, 2008 5:46 PMI would make some yummy vegan smores with my friends and not let them know that the marshmellows (and also graham crackers and dark chocolate) are vegan until after they have already commented on how totally delicious cruelty free food is!! :)
Posted by: Amanda at May 9, 2008 5:57 PMI'm gonna show my friends that you can make vegan smores with vegan chocolate and MARSHMALLOWS!!!! Maybe even invite people for Rice Krispies Treats. I would love that
Posted by: Andy at May 9, 2008 6:21 PMi would def make some yummy smores!

Posted by: kelly g. at May 10, 2008 12:47 AMI would make marshmellows to do what i miss most. I think the thing i miss most about marshmellows is simply curling up with a good book and a mug of hot coco and marshmellows on a cold rainy day. It just isn't the same without marshmellows.

These would be yummy for our backyard veggie 4th of July cookout!
Posted by: Meredith Peters at May 10, 2008 11:19 AMIf i won wow! Where to begin!?
I'd have tons of bake sales to show people that vegans don't just eat carrots, they can eat almost anything meat eaters eat!
The money could then go to buying myself a new chicken suit because mine is looking raggedy and I need a good one for more KFC demos. Or once i get that I could donate to PETA!!
Also, I could make them for sleepovers and just basically spread the word!
And of course I could just eat them too!!!!
:D
I'm soooo strange! I drink hot cocoa in the summer, too, and I long for marshmallows!!!
Posted by: Mya Brooks at May 10, 2008 12:17 PMOMG a Vegan Marshmallow Maker thats like the best! i would eat them till i cant eat anymore, and when i go camping this summer i can EAT SMore's!!!! with my family and friends and not feel left out!!!

Posted by: Arieanne at May 10, 2008 1:21 PMI would be completely stoked to win this kit! when I get older, I'd like to run my own buisness. Posted by: Joseph at May 10, 2008 3:20 PMHey, I was just talking about how I wanted some so bad today! Then I came home, and I saw this!!
I would bring them up to my friends cottage, and we would be together sitting by a campfire (yes this is a boy:P) and we would sit in the dark, under the stars and a blanket and talk all night, with the comfort of some hot chocolate almond milk while roasting our vegan marshmallows. I'm a big dreamer, but how nice would that be? Could possibly happen!!
Posted by: Marieke at May 10, 2008 4:02 PMOh my! I would use them to decorate pies, cakes, eat them plain, put them in s'mores, use them as a layer in a trifle! All vegan of course! My almost 4 year old loves vegan marshmallows so to have her "help" me make them would be awesome!

If I won the marshmallow kit, I would safely put it away until June at which time I would break it out to make marshmallows with the school-age children at my work during their camping theme week!!!! Yay vegan marshmallows!!!
Posted by: Kerry Beyus at May 10, 2008 5:46 PMmake vegan s'mores! what else?

Posted by: Katie at May 11, 2008 3:00 PMGosh its been about 4 years since i have had a marshmellow. I would probably take the Vegan Marshmellow Maker Kit to Mullett Lake this summer and make some smores with my also Vegan cousin on the beach. That would be so much fun. Then i would bring it back to Reno and make smores for my friends, they would eat them and then i would tell them what horrible things animals go through just so we can have a smore. They would all be shocked and wouldn't want to eat another smore again. Then i woiuld tell them what the smores were! And my friends would be so amazed they would go out and by the kit. Its all part of my plan to save the animals!

Posted by: Ashley Ploussard at May 11, 2008 4:37 PMIt's so tempting with sweeties with gelatine in staring at me whenever I open my kitchen cupboards.
(I'm the only veggie in the family.)
Therefore have a marshmallow maker would easy my cravings to stuff my face with "crushed up animal bones" and possibly tempt my dad into eating some which would realy be a miriacle! He won't even taste "that vegetarian crap". Rudeness!
I would have a vegan bbq, then when the sun goes down, make smores with all of my veg buddies!!

:D
Posted by: Raven at May 12, 2008 7:59 AMI would definatly roast them at a camp fire, because I always go camping about 3 times a year and I would go with teens and kids, and having vegan marshmellows it would be an awsome experience for them to know that in every non-veggie food there is a substitution for it that is also animal friendly. also i would put them in my hot chocolate because up in the north we always have harsh weather..
Posted by: Yules at May 12, 2008 8:54 AMthis is the coolest thing ever..i would love making these for my friends and family!!

I'd use it to make marshmellow treats and let my friends try it so they'll see how being vegan isn't bad at all!
well... if i were to get a super amazing vegan marshmallow making kit such as this one, i would MOST LIKELY make them and bring my sweet treat to my friend's land where we go camping once a month! I'm sure everyone else would like them too, and i love showing my friends how easy being vegan can be!
Posted by: phoebe at May 12, 2008 7:10 PMI have been a vegetarian now for almost a year. S'more are defintely something I miss. If I won, of course I would make s'mores, rice krispies, and also put them in my hot cocoa (with chocolate Silk of course!)
