Stop the Violence in Mexico! No More Emo Bashing! April 4, 2008
Posted by Lara Sanders | Permalink | Comments ( 23 ) | TrackBackHas anyone heard of this emo bashing business going on in Mexico? For anyone who hasn't heard- the last couple of weeks emo kids in Mexico have been targeted and beat up because a group of people don't like how they look, dress, and act.
So messed up! Can't we all just get along? So many members of the hardcore, punk, metal, and emo communities are into animal rights and are strongly opposed to contributing to the violence of animals, so what is the deal with all this violence against each other?
We at peta2 were so upset about this that we sent some peta2 tees to show our support to a group who is on the ground in Mexico organizing to protect the emos!
So what is the animal rights tie-in? Violence of all kinds is bad- whether it's violence on your plate, or violence against one another. There have been studies showing the link between animal abuse and violence toward humans.
So long story short- let's all make up and hug!

I have lived in Mexico, what's happening there is horrible.
I went there on vacation and as I turned on the news they were talking about how many emos are getting beat up by people that don't agree with their style of living. Its just ignorant people that can't see beyond what they think its right.
The emos are doing a protest to let others know that they have the same liberty rights! That's so great!!!!!! If I can, I'll go there to help =)
You guys so are my heroes!
I am so buying an emo t-shirt!
VIVA LA EMOS!
oh dear xx
Posted by: sophie at April 4, 2008 1:44 PMSad story, I dress emo :D I love them...
Posted by: brittany at April 4, 2008 4:09 PMThat is not right that emo people are being persecuted because they act differently. I dont approve of labels so I think calling them emo is wrong but still it doesnt mean that you can attack them.
Posted by: twilightveghead at April 4, 2008 5:50 PMyou guys are doing soo much good things for those emos. Like for god's sake they are people just like us and mexicans are beating them for the way they dress like wtf. peta 2 for life
I love you guys thanxs
Posted by: Dillon girardin at April 4, 2008 8:55 PMwow..thats sad.thats like prejudice dude!! omg..soooo not fair! the emos should all gang up on them. oh no that wouldnt be very nice..well they should go back to kinder and do the peace walk!.
:]
I don't understand what this world is coming to. Just as was stated above, violence of any kind is wrong. Most 'emo' kids are 'emo' because they are so downcast and thrown aside. Don't the people targeting them realize that it is THEIR fault that they are the way they are? I think you should be able to dress any way you feel in the morning. If you wake up and you feel 'gangster' then you should be allowed to wear baggy pants and a big tee that comes down to your knees. If you feel 'preppy' then you should dress that way. Dress how you feel. We are all people with emotions and our emotions dictate how we act towards the world. If you wake up with hate in your heart, then you will be hateful to the rest of the world for the rest of the day. I feel that this bashing just shouldn't be the case anywhere in the world. We should all be accepted for who we are no matter what 'clique' your in. The bottom line is that we are all people and that nobody should be hated for who they are. You can never be more than who you are and you should never be expected to be less than such. I think I'm done babbling on about this because this simply shouldn't even be an issue.

Posted by: Brandi Johnson at April 5, 2008 4:31 AMThat is crazy. I think that is so wrong. Now I know i sure wont be going to mexico.
I just confused and wrong by their actions towards emo, punk, rocker type of people/kids.
So what if emo people are diffrent but everyone is the same we are all human beings who all deserve to be treated the same. If thats the way they chose to treat people who have diffrent beliefs or dress a certain way it shows there mantality and their actions towards other people .
Unfortunately violence against those who are different isn't isolated to Mexico. Recently a goth girl in the UK was murdered for the way she chose to dress. I have also been attacked for my style but I refuse to change!
Posted by: Little_Lotte at April 5, 2008 9:54 AMThere's a Mexican foreign exchange student at my school, and he told me if a boy even has long hair they shoot them with BB guns, throw hot coffee at them, punch them for no reason, etc. I changed his mind baout a lot of this stuff throughout this school year, though :]
Nobody in Mexico does anything about this. It irritates me.

Posted by: steven at April 5, 2008 6:37 PMi agree with you thats horrible!!!!!!!!!1
Posted by: Meow at April 5, 2008 8:31 PMThe deal behind the emo bashing is that this sort of thing has been going on for centuries, but not just towards emos and such. Emos were beaten up in America during the 80's even! People dispise and fear anything they don't understand or are unfarmilar with.
Posted by: Kibagal at April 6, 2008 12:37 AMThis is horrible!! Not the emos!!!!
Posted by: Bekka at April 6, 2008 10:35 AMOKay, I dont like to stereotype but i am what they call "emo".... That is so straight! (i dont like saying gay) I mean seriously, why cant we all just get along.. Its upsetting... Lol, come to think of it, im the only emo girl in the school, the only super vegan as well. Im a target for most people. Haha! But oh well, still.. Its so wrong to beat people up who are so kind and generous because of the way they dress.... Ugh...
Love, Sierra
omg. i've heard about that!
i watch the mexican news and when i saw it i was like wtf!?
then i got my step-dad to translate for me (lol).
but it really is terrible. and wrong.
i dont see why all of this even started..
it really doesnt even make sense..
this is terrible. i WILL NOT BE GOING TO MEXICO ANYTIME SOON!!!
people in my school think that i am emo and i am not. i am me and i am happy with who i am. and the people in mexico should just deal with it.
i just got an idea, - someone could make a deal with the emos. like have them go veg and offer complete care. watevs.

Posted by: olivia at April 7, 2008 9:12 PMThats terrible! Free tee's for all the emos! If these emos had just been wearing some 'Hug me, Im Vegan!' tee's, I bet everyone would have been much less violent with them.
