Free Stuff Friday: Vegan Chocolate for Mom! April 25, 2008

Posted by Ashleigh | Permalink | Comments ( 163 ) | TrackBack

Mother's Day is May 11th, and it's time to sing the praises of moms everywhere. Here are some facts about animal moms that are too amazing to keep to myself:

    animals2.jpg
  • Mother pigs have been known to sing to their piglets during feeding
  • Cow moms take turns babysitting for each other
  • Mama cows have been known to jump fences and travel for miles looking for their calf if they are separated
  • Fish moms use their mouths to hide their babies from harm
  • Elephant moms maintain constant touch with their children, never allowing them to stray too far
  • Chickens "talk" to their chicks before they hatch
One way to show your mom (and animal moms everywhere) some love this Mother's Day is to give her PETA's Mother's Day chocolate gift box!

mom%20day%20chocolates.jpg

This is some fine vegan Belgian chocolate: 4 sheets of nut chocolate (2 dark almond sheets, 1 vegan milk almond sheet, and 1 vegan milk pecan sheet), 6 assorted nut chocolate clusters, and 2 peanut butter cups—all topped off with another 21 mixed créme and solid chocolate pieces. This is seriously making my mouth water.

Want to give your mom one of these without paying a dime? One winner will be able to do just that! To win, comment below with why your animal-loving mom deserves this amazing gift!

This contest ends May 2, 2008 and the winner will be chosen and notified the same day!

Just so you know...by commenting here, we're taking that as acknowledgment that you've read and agreed to our privacy policy.

Also by commenting, you are agreeing to the following terms and conditions.

Good luck!

-Ashleigh

PS - I really don't know how anyone could do this to animals when we know these remarkable things about them.

Hi my name is Casey, My grandmother is so kind to animals. She never eats meat, she is totally against the fur industry and the torture that these poor animals go through and the traumatization that the babies go through at birth. She helps me in my attempts to end the testing of products on animals. She agrees with me that it is sick and wrong!! My grandmother deserves this because she is as close to a mom that I will ever have. She knows what it is like to be torn away from the ones she loves and pray for years to get them back!

Hi I'm Jessica. I'm vegetarian and going vegan and my mom is going vegetarian but she isn't sure about veganism because she doesn't want to miss out on stuff like desserts. I think that if I could give some vegan chocolate to her she would realize that vegans don't only eat vegetables. She really deserves these chocolates because she has been super supportive of my being vegetarian and going vegan. I love her to death and I really think she deserves these. Thanks, Jessica :)

I would love to give this to my mom because she has done soooo much. Most of my family is not vegetarian so every night she makes dinner she makes me a separate dinner, but the same thing with fake meat, most of the time whatever it is. She was so supportive of me going vegetarian and is always bringing home new vegetarian things for me to try. Also, she looks for supplies to say not tested on animals just for me =]
I could truly say that i think she is the best mom in the world, and this is sooooo much better than any present i could think of.
-thanks ;)

My mom deserves the chocolate because she loves animals. She just rescued two mixed Labs from an abandoned house and she decided that we could keep them. She takes care of them everyday. She took them to the Veterinarians and got them their shots

My mom deserves this because not only is she vegetarian but she loves animals with a passion! Shes always stopping on the side of the road to save a chicken that has fallen off those ridiculous trucks! Shes Fur free and Non pet shop buying! She also has never chained a animal in here life! Her life style defenitly shows her lov and passion for her animal companions!

My mom is amazing. Although she isn't a vegetarian, she happily munches down on whatever veggie meals I make. She's tried veggie burgers and been surprised when they taste just like the "real thing". She helps me to defend my eating habits (and even explained to my extended family that I went vegetarian) when we're in groups because she knows it's hard to explain life choices to family members I only see a few times a year. She doesn't shy away from buying me things for new recipes or things like frozen veggie burgers for when I need some cooking down time. She's helped me stumble through a bunch of recipes and has made it so much easier.

My mom is so caring towards animals, especially those without a home. Since I was very young, she has helped cats who are obviously abandoned and starving for food and affection. Some are found defenseless - completely de-clawed! So my mom has taken in the occasional cat and nursed it back to health and she is learning to be cruelty-free in all ways but one. She needs persuasion that giving up meat and animal products doesn't mean sacrificing taste! I think my mom could do with a box of vegan chocolate for Mothers Day to change her mind and lifestyle forever.

My mom deserves this because she sacrifices so much for me and my sisters. She works on the other side of the country and we only get to see her for four days at a time so that we can pay for myself and my sisters to attend university and college in the next few years. also, she is the most supportive when it comes to my choice to be a vegetarian, and she goes out of her way to make sure that i get all of the vegetarian food i want. These would help her realize how wonderful vegan alternatives are, and she just loves chocolate.

My mom deserves some vegan Mother's Day chocolate because she has always been so supportive of my decision to be a vegetarian/vegan. She always tries to help me find vegan foods that I'll like, not to mention how kind she is to animals in general. She also always buys cruelty-free products, and if I tell her about a company that is cruel to animals, she will always switch to a different brand. She's the best mom ever, and this would be a great chance to show her how delicious chocolate can be without any dairy ingredients!

My mother has been iffy on me being a vegetarian, and she doubts me at times. She is always afraid to try my veggie meats, as if it will taste bad.

If i could give her vegan chocolates and convince her to try them and SEE that they are amazing, maybe she will lighten up. I want her support and approval so badly, because this is a lifestyle i chose and believe in; i want her to believe in it, too. I want her to believe in me.

These chocolates, as crazy as it sounds, MAY gain that for me.

And it would give her a better look inside the vegean/vegetarian world, so maybe she will be more willing to cut back on the slaughtering of animals.

Maybe.

I think my mom deserves to win because she has supported my becoming vegan from the begining, and she even decided to go vegan after she realized why I went vegan, and she has diabetes but she still chooses to be vegan anyways. Also because of how hard she works everyday from 7:00a.m. until 7:00p.m. just to keep a roof over all of our heads, and she hasn't ever given up,even after my dad left her, which i think is amazing, and that's why my mom deserves to win.

My mum deserves to win some chocolates because this year she made the step of going from pescetarian to full vegetarian so it won't difficult to convince her to take on a vegan diet.

i am my mother's youngest daughter, and i couldn't ask for anything to make that better. my mother is the one who got my to be kind- especially to animals, when i was real little. "they're more scared of you than you are of them."
i can't get a job yet, but it kills me. i want to give my wonderful mom everything i can. i know money isn't everything, but she still deserves nice things. she never complains about anything, even when i ASK HER TO!!! my mom is soo tiny and i tell her to eat more all the time, but because she grew up not eating much of anything(whole different story) she's still not a big eater. so if(*crosses fingers*) she wins, i won't let her get up until she eats like five pieces!!lol
there are soooo many more reasons that she deserves this awesome mother's day gift, but it's too sad to write... and i just QUIT crying lol
please, take my request to the heart, thank you and always love you guys!!!!!

My mom deserves this because she is so kind- to people and all animals. She deserves to be shown thanks for how kind she is and how open she is to everything, all ideas, and how supportive she is of everything as well. These would make a great gift for her.

When I first went vegetarian 9 years ago it was my mom who told my dad that I was serious about this and that they needed to help me find out about the "veggie food" options at the grocery store!

SHE is the one who introduced me to Amy's Meals and all of the other great brands of vegetarian foods available in grocery stores today! She is the one who cooked my first Tofurky. She was the one who took me out to lunch to have my first BK Veggie the very day it came out. She's not vegetarian, but she sure eats a hell of a lot less because of the fact she knows how many great tasting, convenient vegetarian/vegan options are out there.

She helped spread the word, and drove me to my first demo ever, which I organized in a matter of days w/ PETA's help in a small town in Oregon. We really showed those circus people what's up!

She is a hueg chocolate lover, unlike me, and I think that this would be the ultimate present for her because while she knows I'm vegan, she doesn't know just how good these wonderful vegan chocolates taste!

P.S.
Writing this has really made me so profoundly more grateful than I have ever been over the past few months for my mom because of her embracing my vegetarianism.

My Mom deserves this yummy vegan treat for a few reasons. First, she never treats herself to anything - she's always worrying about everyone else but forgets about herself. It would be nice for her to have something just for her. Second, she's been trying to make the change from veggie to vegan and really misses chocolate. This would show her that there is nothing to miss! She can still have great cruelty-free goodies! And lastly, I won't be able to come home from school for Mother's Day this year, so I would really love to have something lovely like this to send her.

Thanks for considering my Mom for this prize!

Hello Peta! My name is Crystal, I'm 14 (15 in May) and I live in southern California. I think my mother deserves this amazing gift because she was the parent who supported me since my vegetarianism and bought all kinds of veg foods just for the two of us. And whenever I spot a stray, either wandering into our backyard or on the streets downtown, she helps me help them get to one of the many animal shelters in San Bernardino (there are over 15!). We've earned a good reputation at some of the shelters now.

My mom loves animals but that is not why she deserves the chocolates for Mothers Day. When I was five my moms parents (mimi and pawpaw to me) took custody of me because my mom was a real bad alcoholic. April 4, 2007, the day I turned 19, my mom moved to Panama City beach FL to live 5 minutes from me instead of 6 hours. She moved here with 10 1/2 years of sobriety, her car payed off and money for the move down here after working two and three jobs for years. So you see, she really deserves this and more

My mom as a child always had pets in her parents little apartment that her father would find injured and bring home to nurse. Mom continued that caring process as she became an adult. She always helped strays along with having two dogs in the household. My mom loved and still loves pets. She is now in a nursing home and will be ninety in June. I would love for her to have this treat. thank you

My mom's name is Helene. She has 5 cats.
She LOVES her cats. Right now, she lives with her boyfriend Tom, and sometimes they have fights and my mom leaves for a while. Its kind of funny though, because every time she leaves, she takes every cat in the car, and goes wherever she goes with them. In the winter, she put baby leotards on them so they wouldn't be cold. If anyone ever does anything that is in any way mean to the cat, she'll punish us. She really loves her cats. They're names are caramel, peaches, violet, ming, and abigail.

My mom was vegan before vegan was cool. My friends would make fun of our menus and the trouble she would go to in order to find organic foods and protein substitutes before they were easily available. I must admit I never understood why we were so strange when I was younger. Now that I am old enough to be exposed to the horrors of animal production plants and farms, I am proud of my mothers early stand and have adapted her lifestyle with my own children.

My mommy deserves so much in life. Not only has she raised me, but she's been living her life from day one cruelty free. She was born a vegetarian, because her parent's were. Then, when i was born, she raised me a vegetarian. I know my mommy deserves vegan chocolate. She's diabetic and vegan chocolate is so much better for her when she needs to get her blood sugar up. My mommy would never think about hurting an animal, in any purpose whatsoever. she's never owned a fur coat, leather purse or anything that had to hurt any type of animal. Also, my animal loving mommy is helping me organize a KFC protest by getting the word out at her job. =)

not to mention , my mom makes the BEST homemade tofu icecream and vegetarian tacos =)

My mom isn't a vegetarian (yet, but I'm trying!) but she has given up beef. But the real reason why I think she deserves this gift is because where they live, every year at least one person dumps newborn kittens, and my mom always takes them in and feeds them, cleans them, and takes great care of them until they are old enough to be put in other homes (if she didn't give the kittens away to our close friends, my parents would have about 50 cats by now). Almost all of the animals that my parents have in their home are strays or animals that have been removed from their previous owners due to abuse and neglect. My mom gets up early in the morning to take care of all the animals and spends her free time (all the time she has outside of her job) to take care of them. It seems like she is constantly feeding and cleaning up after all of them, but she has never given up.

My mums name is Tammy and i think she deserves these vegan chocolates because she does everything for me. Not to mention she is a devoted vegetarian. My mother has supported my AR/vegan lifestyle since day one and has gone to numerous protests and signed numerous petitions for animals. She is so much more then a vegetarian, shes an active ARA. If i'm somewhere fighting for animal rights she is right beside me. In fact, for my birthday she traveled SEVEN hours to Boston, MA with me just to take me to my first protest. She even convinced my father to become a semi-veggie, how spectacular right? She has a "Try Veg!" bumper sticker on her car and wears a "Boycott KFC!" button on her jacket everywhere she goes. She's taken me to see real Dairy Farms just to make me a stronger ARA. I wouldnt be the ARA i am today if it weren't for her. I love my mom and i think she deserves these chocolates because not only is she an amazing mother, but shes an amazing vegetarian with a heart the size of texas.

*ARA = Animal Rights Activist

My mother deserves these because she is the best mother any person could have. It's not just my opinion, most of my friends want her for a mother as well! I am now 49, and this has been my friends' opinion for over 4 decades. She indulges animals at every possible occasion, and loves and cares for all living creatures. She's had a tough life, which is what fuels her compassion, and suffers with many health issues including spinal cord degeneration and chronic pain. This woman deserves the best after giving so much to so many for so long. Some great chocolate that hurt nobody or nothing in its creation, would be a fitting present for such a woman.

My mom wouldn't let us get pets until we had enough time, space and money to take care of them. When we finally got a dog, she insisted that we pick one out from the Humane Shelter instead of from a breeder or pet store. When we got our dog fixed, my mom also adopted a cat that had been turned in to the vet office. The prior owners wanted it to be put down for peeing in their house. Soon after that, a stray cat started hanging around our house, so my mom took him to the vet and got him fixed and vaccinated, too. Later that fall when we were back at the shelter to get our dog's heartworm test re-done, my mom fell in love with a playful little kitten that the shelter staff didn't like very much. Even though she knew my dad wouldn't be happy about another animal to care for, she wouldn't leave it there with the staff not liking him. She spends a lot of time taking care of all of us with 3 kids, 3 cats, a dog and a fish. She should win this.

My name is Megan and I have been a vegetarian now for four years. While this feels like a long and happy time for me, my mom deicided to opt for a vegetarian lifestyle over 30 years ago, for the sake of the animals and moral values of herself. She has recently undergone a surgery, so will be obligated to stay in bed over mothers day- meaning no happy mothersday breakfast out this year. She is a constant motivation and example that a vegetarian lifestyle is the way to go, and inspires me to inform others about living cruelty free. Seeing that she has brought me along with her to trips of protesting the circus, keeps everything in the cupboads strickly vegetarian , and has gone on to raise a vegetarian family, I feel that waking her up with a suprise cruelty-free mothers day box of chocolates, may make her day that much better.

Mothers are graceful, patient, caring women that want the best for their child(ren). I think the best way is through showing compassion to other living creatures on the plant and mothers love their child(ren) to be healthy which is only through being vegetarian or vegan. Vegan chocolate is as sweet as a mother.

My mom deserves this tastey gift for many reasons...she has always been supportive of me: the good stuff and the bad. When I decided to go vegetarian out of the blue on Thanksgiving day many, many years ago, she wasn't too thrilled about it but she let me be. She even tries to eat veg. meals consistently throughout the week (mostly for lunch) and she is thinking about converting over to the good side. She would also go out of her way to save a stray cat or dog or stop traffic to help someone catch their runaway pet. She even helped talk my dad into allowing me to adopt a greyhound, even though she didn't want another "large" dog in the house. Even though she has a heart of gold when it comes to understanding others needs, that isn't the main reason for why she should win this gift...she spent the whole night/morning in the pains of labor to deliver me (naturally, no pain meds) at 5:45 on Mother's Day morning (which happens to be may 11th this year)!!!

My mom isn't a vegetarain, but she is a wonderful mother. She is open-minded and caring. She supports my decision to be a vegetarian and doesn't degrade me for sticking up for animals. She is my fun parent, though I don't really have fun with her. My mom doesn't always show me love, but she shows me the more important things. Like, how not to live. I learn from her mistakes. She is a great mother, though.

She had a stroke 3 years ago and we recently found out she has lung cancer. My Grammy is not vegan or vegetarian but I have been trying to give her healthy alternatives to the things she loves since the diagnosis. I just think this would make her happy pure and simple.

My name is Leanne, and i think that my mom deserves this chocolate because even she has been the only one to support my vegetarianism. My entire family eats meat and she will go out of her way to make me something that is vegetarian. I want to go vegan and I think that giving her these chocolates would me a nice gift to tell her that, and to show her how much food can be turned vegan. It could also turn her into a vegetarian, maybe she might realize how easy it is

I would love to win this gift for my mom to show her that vegans can eat chocolate and have great tasting desserts. I want her to see that vegans don't eat bland food or eat only tofu and veggies. My mom is wonderful and I want her to eat healthy, so I'd love to win this prize for her.

My mom was against it when I became a vegetarian (and later vegan) but when she saw that I won't drop out no matter what she said, she started to support me. Or at least she checks the ingredients when she buys food for me and stuff like that. Sometimes she has made mistakes but she no longer says "why you have to be so difficult" but more like "damn, why do they have to put whey in everything".

When I got a pet hamster, my mom was like "um okay but you know you have to take care of her and I won't ever do it". But, being the kind-hearted person she is, she took care of her for a year after I had to move from home (me and mom agreed it would be too much stress for the small one to travel), liked her nevertheless and buried her when she died while sleeping at the age of 2,5 or so.

My mom also feeds the cats who happen to come to her yard looking like they don't have a home. And takes care of old people in the neighbourhood. Oh, did I mention how she does all that in addition to having a full-time job, a big garden, three fussy grandchildren and so on...

My mother has been aware, and has responded to the abuse of animmals, and the torturous killing. She hes been a Vegan at heart long before there was a name for it. She has instilled the same compassion in all of her children, before it was cool! This amazing box of Chocolates? I'd say she deserves it!

I think my 2 yr old daughter would want her mom to win...After going vegetarian around 3-4 yrs ago she(we) decided to raise our daughter vegetarian. She has stuck to our guns and she has never had any meat or meat product yet. I think she deserves this as a treat to making sure our daughter eats healthy and learns to love all animals.

Hello, my name is Alex, and I think that my mom deserves this because she doesn't think that vegan food is good. And what better way to show her how wrong she is than to give her one of her favorite foods, vegan style?

Also, she works very hard. She HATES her job, yet still works there so that we [her three children] can get what we want.

She [and my father] have supported me greatly in my choice to become vegetarian. She even offers to take me food shopping, and buys me the stuff I need to remain a veggie, and a healthy one, at that.

She is a wondeful mother, daughter, sister, and wife, and deserves to win this very much.

My mother has always taken in strays, and gone the extra mile to help the furry friends that come her way. all three of my current animals were never bought from a store or anything like that, rather, she rescued my dog when she was 8 weeks old from the side of the road where she was abandoned, and my two cats where strays that she took in and cared for.

My mother sells antiques, and every month she exhibits her items at a large, high-profile show. In the April show we had a surprise. There was a new dealer in the show, and his "collection" consisted of animal carcasses stuffed for decoration for your living room wall, floor and corner. My mother went directly to show management and let them know how offensive her customers found the display. Who were her customers? Me! She did it for me, her animal advocate daughter, the same daughter she cooks vegetarian for. My mom goes "activist" for the animals whenever I ask, and even sometimes when I don't. She deserves a chocolate treat for her vocal support!

My mother went to Africa in 1976 as a missionary and had to leave behind her two standard poodles. She left them with Mrs. Romer who rescued animals. When my mom came home in 1984 she brought a black standard poodle home with her that had been the pet of another missionary family. Pedro died in 1987 and my mom hasn't had a dog since. My mom has had dogs all of her life and passed on her love of animals to me. That is why I think she is deserving of this gift.

All those things about animals are just too adorable!! Mt mom isn't in to the whole veg thing, but she supports me in every single way on my choice to be a vegetarian!! And she's fine with my brother being a vegan!! Whenever I need something involving my vegetarian needs, she goes and gets it for me!! She got me these pills, even though I didn't ask for them, because she knows that I need to take them so I get healthier!! She supports me and my brother about our decisions to help animals all the time!! And she listens to me when I want to tell her about something vegetarian, like what they actually do to chickens, and that she needs to get Kosher foods, if shes going to be a meateater!! Also, since I became a vegetarian, she hasn't been eating as much meat as she used to, because she knows that it totally disgusts me and makes me want to barf everytime that my family eats meat!! Shes great-most of the time!! AHA!! :D And I'd like to give her these treats to show her that Vegan and Vegetarian things really ARE very delicious!! And it's healthy and makes you feel healthier!! ^_^

My mom has been a vegetarian for about 6 years, and we both recently went vegan together. She is totally supportive of not only my efforts to better myself and stop the inhumane treatment of animals, but also my friends! My best friend is also vegan, and her mom doesn't support it. So my mom is always inviting her to dinner at our house, so she won't have to be around people who think being vegan is "weird." My mother also has the biggest sweet tooth, and eats vegan chocolate chips straight from the bag! This gift would be perfect for her, and she'd be totally shocked to get it!

Hi I am Peyton Grace and I think my momma deserves vegan chocolate for mothers day. First off, my momma's birthdayy is May 11th. Also my momma has been vegan with me since May 29th, 2007. She also goes into stores that hurt animals with me so we can yell at people in them. Also my momma makes the most gnarlyy veggie patties and saurkraut with vegan chili. My momma loves food and I think she will really like the vegan chocolate.

My mom who has no pets but loves all animals....she baby sat my late beloved dog for years while we would go on vacation. She gave my diabetic dog insulin shots daily and treated her as a child.
My mom who has no pets actually does. You can sit in her sunroom and watch the deer and the fox come up close in her backyard. She goes out daily and puts out food and loves to see the wild animals come up to eat it...I got to witness twin fox this weekend which were beautiful..not scared and seemed very happy to have my mom as a benefactor.

My mom as far as I can remember has always rescued animals or helped animals that were in need of water or food. She adores animals no matter if domestic or wildlife she just has the heart that continues to be a major part of their being on this earth. She is kind and has the "motherly" way to know when they are sick, in need of attention or just the way she speaks to them is comforting. I would love to pay tribute to her with this giveaway and to let her know how much I love and adore her. ;-) Happy Mother's Day everyone. Thanks.
