Models Wearing Meat...Seriously March 14, 2008

Posted by Patricia | Permalink | Comments ( 37 ) | TrackBack

The set of America's Next Top Model became a meat market this week, literally. In the oh so cleverly titled "Where's the Beef?" episode, the models were taken to NYC's meat packing district where they posed with carcasses and dumpsters full of the dismembered body parts of tortured animals.

As if that wasn't gross enough, they actually dressed the models in pieces of raw, bloody meat. I'm talking like skirts and underpants and bras made from flesh. It was like a scene from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I kept waiting for Leatherface to jump out and chase them around. It was hideous.

Now, I know that several people involved in the show care about animals, so this is straight out of left field. I just don't get it. I have no idea what they were thinking, but here's what we are thinking...

PETA's official response is this:

No matter how beautifully it is presented, flesh from a tortured animal is flesh from a tortured animal. Meat represents bloody violence and suffering, so if that's the look they were going for—they achieved it. Instead of swathing models in meat, we wish they had followed in the footsteps of PETA pinups Pamela Anderson and Alyssa Milano who show off their "natural beauty" in outfits made of lettuce leaves for PETA's "Let Vegetarianism Grow on You" ad campaign.

My official response is this:

(Insert sound of puking here.)

The photos are way too disgusting to post but if you want to see them, click here and have your barf bag ready.

P.S. Any way you look at it, meat is disgusting. So please, don't wear it or eat it.

Yeah. I watched the episode, and I was quite surprised. I mean, I guess in a way it could also be used as a statement too, but it wasn't. Just props. I guess it's just such a touchy subject. I know there are a lot of people on the show, the actual models, and the behind the scenes people that really do care about animals and they're amazing with not involving much fur. Plus last season (or the season before) one of the first photo shoots involved shots where there was one person who had to be the vegetarian and model with veggies, and the meat eater that modeled with meat. They also did a photoshoot with fur and anti-fur.

But yeah. I found it very surprising.

I'm so glad that PETA commented on this. I was really upset when I watched ANTM this week. The photoshoot was shockingly disrespectful to animals, and was also completely disgusting. They didn't even try to offer any kind of explanation as to why the models were posing with animal flesh, so it was just pointless, wasteful cruelty. It didn't make any sense.

As a young vegeterian i loook up to Tyra and this is NOT what i would look up to!! Why couldnt they have a veggie photo shoot to spread the word for vegeterians!! Why didnt they at least get fake meat?? i mean come on, cruel much!!!

*spews* That's just nasty!

I guess it just shows that to be a "top model" you have to have no self respect and no respect for other living creatures.

I don't watch the show. Did any of the models refuse to do it?

That's so incredibly stupid! Eating meat is wasteful enough itself. I looked at the pictures and that display of horror showed human self-obsession at its worst. To think that these people's hope winning some stupid tv competition is worth the lives of other animals is just retarded. Why anyone would agree to do that photoshoot unless they really hate life and want to see it destroyed I have no idea. And the pictures from a viewpoint aside from my morals weren't even very good anyways. Honestly I think that those photos could've been artistic but they kinda sucked anyway, what a waste!

Ok that is "Dead" nasty! For real. I wouldn't be able to do that if i was a model and HAD to do that. I would quit on the spot.

yeah I was watching that this week 'cause well it's fun to poke fun at and I was completley disgusted at how low and pathetic these people are that they would wear meat and think nothing of it...the models were all like ohhh ewww I'm wearing meat it smells...well what do you think wearing the dead body of an innocent animals is going to smell like...the fact that not one of them even said they didn't want to because was cruel show's they are just stupid models..

its wierd... we all look up to models like tyra... but their evil actually... but i didnt even watch it... i read the info thing and decided not to watch it b/c i probably would have barfed. b/c i know what they do to those poor animals they hung while those skinny biOtches posed next to them... *barf and sobbing sounds*

Posted by: Charity at March 16, 2008 1:02 AM

That is so stupid, If the motherfuckers are going to go with the dead creature all over their bodies they are idiots who need to find something better to do than play dress up.
They can't tell the difference between their clothes or what they eat and those bitches are usually made practically anorexic and they say they aren't sick, It's pathetic to do that considering they are also with people who don't like that animals are tortured they are so desperate to play dress up that they wear meat, no offense to them it's just that it is so freakin stupid, honestly why would they get people trying to take on the goal of being what they supposedly call Americas next top model to wear meat it's pretty damn lame if you ask me and so on...
I'm not all about wearing veggies either but I don't think it's as bad as wearing a dead animal, oh well...

When I saw it I'm not even joking now, I was so pissed off that I broke the T.V. screen ran into my neighbors house and picked up the meat she was eating looked at her screen and saw she was watching the same thing, I threw the meat outside and started screaming at her until I got her to get rid of all her meat and furs.

i was going to watch it and then post a
comment ... but i dont want to anymore !
the way some ppl described the scene i ttly
correct ; and i agree very much ! these models
have no self respect to wear a dead carcass
on themselves . =( i mean if i had an option
of being on the show and wearing the meat .
i would have made a statement and left the
show by creating and saying the speech of how
awful the idea of wearing meat is .

its not clever or funny at all .
some ppl need to open their eyes already and
understand that this sort of thing cannot jst
fly ! it was very immoral and they had to kno
that some ppl would be mad about it and i for
one am no longer going to watch americas nxt
top model . and , im considering to stop
watching kyras own show !

she seemed so intelligent on her own show ...
so aware and she covers good topics ; so why
would she be a part of something so stupid !?

That is NASTYNASTYNASTY. I don't watch the show that much and now I don't think I will ever again.

But here's my question:
If the models really care about animals why did they still pose in the meat? I mean, it's just modeling! There are so many things better than that!!

This is the reason why we don't eat meat. Because its inhumane, destroying Mother Earth, and GROSS.

That has got to be the worst display of fashion I have ever seen in my entire life. Who wants to wear meat? Bloody, and disgusting looking flesh. I would even want to go near it. If i were those women. I would be awfully ashamed of myself.

omg...when i saw that episode i was sickened..i mean if i were on the show i wouldnt have done that at all...i would have been throwing up the minute i stepped out of that car...but i cant believe they did that...it was disgusting...i was gagging the entire time...i had to switch channels...

I saw that episode and the whole time I was waiting for any one of the models to stand up against it. But it never happened, they just let it go on. I thought just seeing the flesh would be a good enough wake up call. I couldn't bear watching it since parts of peta videos I've seen before started flashing in my head.

Okay, it was seriously, like the SECOND episode I watched of this season of America's Next Top Model and honestly, it sickened me too.
Who in their right mind would even THINK of making someone where meat!
Like honestly. That's one thing I would refuse to do. I wouldn't care how important that "job" would be for me, I would refuse.
It's just as bad as wearing REAL fur!

Stand up and speak out for those who can't!

I couldn't believe what I was seeing when I saw that episode. I was literally disgusted. All I was doing was flipping through the channels, and as soon as I saw the models wearing the meat, I became enraged. Can't they find another way to stick up for animal rights. I immediately flipped the channel.

Yea I turned it on midway and my eyes just like widened I kinda at first thought that they were making a statement about how its not good and stuff but then as the show progressed I saw that they were just doing it for the fun of it or w/e It was seriously sick!

Well I dont watch that show. I dont like vanity first of all. Secondly, there is NO message or 'statement' that can be made from this. Its completely senseless and wasteful. I have watched the Tyra show a few times, and I will be writing her to find out why she would do (or agree to do) such a thing. As for the guy who said 'no offense to the models' ... MAJOR OFFENSE to the models. They offended the animals. Maybe not the dead ones they posed with, but the next round that have to replace what they wasted. Not a single one of those models was decent enough to draw a line or stand any sort of ground and refuse to do such a thing. They give up nobility for fame? Screw them all who are offensive to the animals, and to me.
