ANTM's Nigel Barker Fights to End Seal Slaughter March 5, 2008

Photographer and America's Next Top Model judge Nigel Barker just took a trip to Canada to shoot probably the cutest models he'll ever have the pleasure of working with...baby seals! My crush on him just got about ten times bigger.

Of course as we all know the pleasure is short lived because in less than a month those same baby seals will most likely be bludgeoned to death in Canada's barbaric annual seal hunt.

So Barker decided to do what he does best and photograph the seals to show the world the amazing faces of the gentle, trusting animals who will soon become fashion's latest victims.

"I hope to raise awareness in the youth of today with the graphic images of both the joy and desperation from the largest mammalian birthing site and consequent killing fields on Earth. This sort of behavior cannot and will not be tolerated by the youth of today and I intend to do something about it," he said.

How marvelous that someone who's actually involved in the fashion industry is speaking up for the baby seals instead of cashing in on their horrible deaths. Of course, Barker's not the only celeb calling for an immediate end to the seal hunt and I'm sure he won't be the last...unless it's actually stopped once and for all that is, and that's where you come in.

Barker is calling for the youth of today to do something about the seal hunt and since youth = you please sign our petition asking the Canadian government to end the seal hunt forever.

It's great that Nigel Barker is speaking up for animals. But let's not associate his cause for baby seals with ANTM. They DO use Covergirl cosmetics on the models on the show, who tests on animals. So it's like a blatant endorsement of animal testing. Please... don't group them together. Nigel deserves better!

Did he do anything to stop the horrendous meat-outfit photo shoot on ANTM?

Nigel, you are not even Canadian. Get out of our waters.
If you are so concerned about being humane, why don't you post what the annual salary of a fisherman is? Why don't you point out that they barely make enough to live on? Why don't you point out how difficult life is for them already on the miserly amount they make? And how dare you call for a boycott of Canadian seafood? Do you want the families to starve? Do you want to impact an important part of the Canadian economy for your own misguided and selfish podium? Do you think the fishermen enjoy what they are doing or maybe, just maybe, are you willing to realize that they make so little money already, that what little they make on the seal hunt (which no doubt would seem an insignificant amount to you) may make the difference between barely scraping by and having just enough to live on. Maybe you could directly to their homes and wrench food out of their babies mouths. That is what, in essence, you are going to accomplish with this foolish, selfish campaign.
If you are so concerned, why not offer the fishermen to share your annual salary. I'm sure that it is many, many times over what one person would make. And hey, you probably have enough. You don't need it.
