What Do the AKC and the KKK Have in Common? February 8, 2008

When someone mentions a group focused on the purity of bloodlines, it's hard to know which group is being referred to—the American Kennel Club (AKC) or the KKK. Sad (and disturbing), right?
In the group's own words, the AKC promotes "the sport of purebred dogs and breeding for type and function." It's so important for people to understand that each time a dog is bought from a breeder, a shelter dog dies (from a lack of homes)—and the AKC is all about breeding dogs.
Not only that, the AKC also encourages people with specific dog breeds to dock their dogs' tails and crop their ears. That sounds mighty similar to the practices that workers on factory farms inflict on animals raised for food, doesn't it?
