If You Don't Have a Valentine - Read This! February 14, 2008

It's Valentine's Day! If you don't have a sweetheart on this day of love, maybe you aren't looking hard enough! Just lower your gaze a bit, and you will see someone looking up at you ready to cover you in sloppy kisses.

Who says your dog can't be your Valentine? In fact, it might even be preferable! You don't have to take them out to an expensive dinner, they have no use for flowers, and chocolate is definitely OUT! All you have to do is smother them with love. Sounds good to me!

Since your doggy companion offers you unconditional love throughout the entire year, give something back to them this Valentine's Day! One thing you can do is enter to win a doggy prize pack from House of Dog! The prize pack includes Heart Toys, a Red Bones and Sprinkles leash, and a White Paw Bowl.

All you have to do for a chance to win is leave a comment below with the reason why your dog is your Valentine. The best answer wins! *One winner will be picked by 2/21 and notified by 2/28.

Just so you know...by commenting here, we're taking that as acknowledgment that you've read and agreed to our privacy policy.

Also by commenting, you are agreeing to the following terms and conditions.

xoxo-Lara

P.S. On a personal note, since my boyfriend is out of town and I don't have a dog, my Valentine is...Frank!

My dog,KC, is my valentine because she wasn't able to be here for valentine's day. She had died back in October of last year. I had her the whole 16 years of my life, she was 17. & it hurts bad still. I went to her resting place to tell her shes my valentine & i bought her a little decoration to put by her grave. I also have two other dogs that I want to be my valentines :) They are so loveable. They listen grate & are amazing. They miss KC just as much as me.

My dogs are the sweetest of sweethearts because they all love my cooking (all five of 'em). *I* don't even like my cooking, yet they will wolf down whatever I make with wild abandon. They sure know how to flatter a woman. And for that, they totally deserve the canine prize pack!

My dog is my valentine because she is the best ever. I love her so much. When ever I am upset she cheers me up. She is always happy and she is like my best friend. She loves to play and sleep. LOL. She also loves my cat but my cat seems to be in her own world. She will be so happy if she gets the Canine prize pack. She really deserves it!

My dog, Champ, is my valentine[in addition to my kitties and bunny] becuase he is the sweetest, most well behaved dog I've met. He loves everyone he meets, unless he thinks they will harm the family, then it is war. He has never bitten or attacked anyone. If he sees you he will just run right up to you, sit down by your feet, and look up at you like your the greatest person in the world. He deserves the prize pack, because he is cute, caring, and unbelievably sweet

My dog, Polie, is my valentine this year. He's been my baby boy for six years, and the most adorable puppy you've ever seen with his tight, curly, white hair and fluffly, afro-hair. He's always there for me, and cheers me up with a friendly lick. He always loves to snuggle in my lap, and has helped me through the darkest of my times. He is the most serene animal you could meet. I've heard several comments that people sense a peace in Polie, that calms them as well. He is so filled with compassionate love, that he is truly my house's Cupid.

My dog, Winny, is my most wonderful valentine because she always lovingly greets me when I come home and then follows me prancing at my heels. Then, in the nighttime, her voice is a sweet caress reminding me I'm home. What would I do with out her?

My dog, Glory, is the best valentine I've ever had! She thinks I look just as beautiful in my pajamas at 7a.m. as I do in any dress. She never complains when I play my Oldies music - in fact, sometimes she sings along - and she actually likes it when I stay in on Friday nights. She's always happy to see me and she never fails to put a smile on my face, but the top reason I'm blessed to have her for a valentine is that she's the best listener I've ever known. I can tell her anything and she always keeps my secrets:)

My doggie died three years ago so i guess he cant be my valentine but who says my cats cant be? this comment might not qualify for this thing but ill comment anyways... My two cats are definitely my valentines because i love them more than i would love a human valentine. Theyre loyal and loving always. And even if we have a disagreement we make up almost immediately. They are always there for me when im down and any other time actually. Theyre aways ready to spend time with me and happy to do so =) I love my kitties

Murphy is ten years old. She is a golden retriever. She doesn't ask for much. She's a little bit frightened sometimes, and usually over silly things like the dishwasher, vacuum, or black garbage bags. My dog's my security system. When people come home, she barks. When the shovel falls down outside and makes a loud noise, she barks. When I'm sleeping at three in the morning and someone tries to break into my car, she barks! But she's not as ferocious as she sounds. Murphy is a 70 pound LAP DOG! She's extremely smart. She knows that if someone is sitting in a nice warm space of couch, and that person gets up from said space to use the bathroom or get something to eat, and if she crawls up on the couch into that spot, the only way we will get her down is to give her a carrot. So, naturally, we go through huge bags of carrots every week!

She'll always be my baby, even if she outlives me in dog years. This year, my dog is my Valentine because I've grown up with her, and I know that even if she doesn't buy me a box of chalky hearts or some flowers, I can always count on her for a nasty wet kiss or a cold nose in my face when I'm not paying enough attention to her. =)

I love you, Smurph!

My dog is my valentine. I love her so much. We rescued her after a cruel family had tortured her almost 5 years ago. She is 6 now and she is one of my best friends. I don't need a boyfriend to be happy. I just need my dog. She always puts a smile on my face and makes me happy. She always runs up to me when she sees me. She loves when I banysit because I treat her like a queen. I tell her secrets and she keeps them. She is adorable and big. It's always fun to put my arms around her and hug her. She always lickes me and gives me kisses.I love to kiss her on the nose and she lickes me all over my face. My dog deserves the prize pack because after what she was put through be fore we rescued her, she deserves to be treated like a queen. I love her sssssooooo much and she deserves it!!! I love my big german shepard Megan!!!!!

My dog, Barky, is my Valentine this year because he is the only one in my life to ever wake me up with a bunch of kisses. He doesn't care whether what I'm wearing is in style, I don't need to do my hair just so he doesn't think I look like a slob, he doesn't tell me I'm too fat, he's not afraid of what his mom will think of me, and he doesn't care what I look like underneath my clothes because... quite frankly... if there were ever the awkward moment where I would have to be naked in front of my dog, I'm sure he'd probably just think I was shedding anyway. When I'm upset he always lays his head on my lap and looks at me as if to say "Pet me on the head... it'll make you feel better..." and it always does. Then he gets excited and pounces all over me and makes pawprint marks all over my good paws, but nobody's perfect.

My dog's name is Jet, and I've had him since I was 7. We had just moved and my parents wanted us to feel a little more at ease in our new home. A couple of years ago one of the most horrible of unthinkable things happend. My little dog got sick. Jet was tired and not eating or drinking for two days. I had gotten a phone call at school the day my parents had taken him to the vet. My mom told me that Jet's white blood cells were attacking his reds ones. Nothing caused this, the Vet had told her things like this just happened for no reason. My mom said they were going to try a blood transfusion and he was going to have to stay at "the doggie hospital" for a little while. I cried when I got back to class, and my friends hugged me. I didn't see Jet for a little while after that, but when he came home he had a little cast, a shaved patch, and we had to feed him doggie steriods for a little while. I love Jet soooo much, he's one of the best things that ever happened to me. And that's why Jet is my Valentine!!!

My dog is my Valentine because every time I'm stressed out & depressed she walks up and puts her paws on my lap, then she wont leave me alone until i get up and play with her... no matter what she always has to make me smile. she's also the most adorable little thing ever XD
I also know that my little Valentine will never hurt me with her words, or cheat on me. she just listens and makes me smile.

Well, I do not have a dog... I have two kitties, Austin and Oliver. They were feral kittens from the same mother. Oliver is very cuddly and affectionate, follows me around... he's my favourite (don't tell Austin).

When i was born and i got back from hospital he was there to greet me he was a cute dalmation and died when he was nearly 15. Eve is my other dog and a little cutie she's my valentine because i know she wont hurt me or leave me for someone else. i can always rely on herfor cuddles when i'm upset.

my dog, kasey is my valentine because everytime i'm having a bad day he cheers me up. he has brown eyes and white fur, when he stands up he's over 6 feet tall and as for his body type, let's just say theres more of him for me to love! i tell him all of my problems. even though we can't communicate with words (since he barks and all) we communicate on a different level. we just understand eachother. we love eachother very much and you can tell because whenever he looks at me he wags his tail and tilts his head to the side. and whenever i look at him it feels like i'm looking at a trusting, familiar face. my dog is like a brother to me, i love him so much.

My dog died last year which was a tragedy. Speeding doesnt just kill humans.

So this year i didnt have a dog i had my budgie Tommie, different but still loved and spoiled. Anyboy who says companion bird just sit in cages are mad. I usually spend at least half an hour a day with it and on valentines day 3 hours! Tommie just sat on my hand and chewed me :D

I wanted to post a comment for no reason and of course to proved that bird can be ust as loved as dogs or cats. Also that i am a slave to a rescued bird that is smaller then my hand (sad fact)
