Free Stuff Friday: V-Day Candy Giveaway! February 8, 2008

Posted by Ashleigh | Permalink | Comments ( 52 ) | TrackBack

TGIF my friends! I have a super sweet giveaway today . . .

Hopefully by now you have all told Mars Inc. to drop deadly animal tests. If not, then get to it! Everyone deserves a sweet Valentine's Day, especially the poor animals that are forced to undergo Mars' cruel tests.

Check out the new web banner we made for Mars and Valentine's Day and put it on your page:

Now, what to do about Valentine's Day treats? Snickers, Twix, Mars Bars, M&Ms, Skittles, and Starburst are all OUT (because they are made by Mars), so what should you get your human honey? Well, a lot of companies have pledged not to fund or conduct experiments on animals (like Hershey's). Look here for a list of vegan candy. Yum!

pangea_valentines_gift_basket_full.jpg

Looking for something a little more . . .free? I have you covered. We've teamed up with Pangea to give you an AMAZING gift-basket filled with cruelty-free vegan treats!

Looks delicious! I want my Valentine to give me one of these (hint hint).

What do you have to do to win, you ask? Comment below with how you are going to celebrate your V-day cruelty-free! And get going, this contest ends in exactly one week (February 15, 2008) and winners will be chosen and notified by February 22, 2008.

Just so you know...by commenting here, we're taking that as acknowledgment that you've read and agreed to our privacy policy.

Also by commenting, you are agreeing to the following terms and conditions.

Good Luck!

-Ashleigh

Well, to be honest im not a big fan of valentines day. It's just another way to remind me that i have know one. Do you want to know how i spend my valentines, i watch the most goriest movies out there. Like the hills have eyes and hatchet and my personal favorite the texas chainsaw massacre (the remake). So on valentines night the only place you will find me is curled in my bed with my cat's and doritos. And that's the way i like it. So don't fell sorry for me.

Also, im going to be going to the Humanes society to volunteer, and spend some time with the animals, since I cant see my bf that dayy.

Since many of my classmates/friends/teachers/peers are not vegan, I had a little something sweet in mind. Sometimes actions speak louder than words, but in this case, many people taste buds will be screaming for more vegan food! What I plan on doing is making a run to Whole Foods Market for some Vegan baking supplies. I am going to be making two things: Some brownies that I found the recipe for in 'Skinny Bitch in the Kitch' and some vegan frosted cookies with pink food coloring added to the 'Marta's Snickerdoodle Stacks'.

I am going to be baking the goods the night before, then bringing them into my school the day after in individually wrapped little syran-wrap things with a Peta2 sticker attached. I will hand them out until I run out of them and hand out a "Bloody Burberry" flyer along with it.

I've been planning this since January :) All I have to do is beg my mom to let me make a bulk purchase from WFM, which she should, because another V-Day thing I'll have to do is give her a neck massage.....

But, overall, the Vegan Cookie/Brownie pass out is what I'm most looking forward to. Then, my friends/peers will believe me when I say vegan food is SO much more delicious than dairy/pus/blood filled "treats".

At night, I may go with my Valentine to this Veg restaurant down here called 'Sublime' and pig out on Vegan appetizers and desserts!

You can't have a day celebrating love while being an accomplice to murder and rape, so that will be my cruelty-free Valentines Day!

I'm usually not very excited about Valentine's Day, but this year I am because I've actually got plans! This is my first vegan V-Day, so I'm planning on putting up flyers around school alerting people about Mars' animal testing. Then, I'm making my boyfriend a complete vegan meal - this is BIG, because I hardly ever cook! It'll be great to show him we can still have a great V-Day meal, cruelty-free!

Personaly i dont like Vday that much(((maybe it is the lack of romance at this time))))but what i loove to do is get a bunch of vegan candy((cruety free(NOT MARS))) and replacing peoples candy that they get. i ask of course and if they say no i tell them all the hard facts behind their precious candy. and with the confiscated candy i either throw it away or because i dont like to see anything on this earth wasted i give it to needy. ^_^

This valentine's day I wont be out doing things most people will. I will be writing letters to companies such as Iams, Mars, KFC, and Petsmart, teling them to stop animal testing. I will also be telling my friends about the reality of animal cruelty and animal testing. This valentine's day I will not consume any mars candy and instead will buy vegan and organic candy to give to my family and friends and buying organic cruelty-free dog food for my dog. Perhaps I cannot change what my friends do and eat this valentines day. And I probably wont be able to turn them into vegans like I am, but I sincerely hope that I can change the way they think and act about things like this that are such a real issue. And you never know .. maybe I can get my valentine to become as active as I am in something like this. I just hope that people are a little more aware this valentines day and i'll make this happen by sending e-mails and handing out fliers with information on it. I hope that maybe I can change the opinion of someone. I dont even care if its one normal person, by changing the life of one person, you can change the course of history. I hope next year around this time, Mars wont experiment on animals anymore because of something that I helped do.

This Valentine's Day my boyfriend and I are going to this absolutely amazing vegetarian restaurant. They make it very easy to figure out which dishes you can order vegan too so it's very convenient. Last year when we went there for valentine's day they had the place decorated so beautifully with rose petals on the floor and the lights dimmed. I'm so excited!!

Posted by: Jessica Huffman at February 9, 2008 1:24 PM

I am going to see a movie and eat cruelty-free candy (like Hershey's)

Well, since V-Day is a manufactured holiday designed by corporations to encourage us to spend, spend, spend (!), I don't usually celebrate it. After all, unchecked capitalism isn't good for the earth or her inhabitants. I sure wouldn't mind some vegan sweets, though ;) Who says you need a holiday to enjoy cruelty-free chocolate!?

I'll be telling my peeps about Mars this week... or next week since it's Saturday. XD And for my first ever Vday I've gotten my man some NOT Mars candy and if I'm lucky we'll get to go to the shelter. 8)

How am I going to celebrate V-day cruelty free? Well for starters I bought my own paper and ink and printed out a whole BUNCH of the valentines day cards from Peta2. Im trying to hand them out to about everyone in the school. Also at Target they have vegan chocolate I buy all the time, so ill break them in 2's and wrap them in foil to hand out as well. Itll be so fun! Itd be AWESOME getting this valentines pack. I love you guyss!

Love,
Sierra

This Valentine's day i'am going to be bombarding my family with what they shouldnt buy or accept and tell others not to buy MARS brand candy

-I also Am going to spread the words to ALL of my friends and put more stuff and banners from here on my myspace page [already now have about 3 vegetarian friends!!!]

-Try to see if i can ADOPT an animal

-See if I can go on the school announcements and tell everyone why they should NOT buy MARS brand candy for valentines day and any other day because of the animal cruelty tests they do

-and try to explain to everyone why the MUST be a vegan/vegetarian

-and i am going to see if theres somewhere I can call-email-write to the company and tell them WHY they MUST stop doing animal testing and how WRONG it is

and the whole time while trying to do this iam going to be thinking how I hope myself and others and the people on here just might be making V-DAY a better day for the animals and perhaps more then just V-DAY being improved

I am going to do what this valentine's day is what me and my family do every year we make homemade vegan cookies and freeze some because we make alot. and on valentine night we all sit down and watch a romantic love story movie we all end up crying at the end of the movie because it has a sad ending. and because of that we end up eating all the cookies.

Posted by: cara at February 9, 2008 8:35 PM

We are going to have a vegetarian lunch then to the movies after that. Then he said we are going to go bowling. Come home bake vegan cookies! Then make some popcorn and watch a movie together. And just cuddle eating the cookies and popcorn!

Posted by: christy at February 9, 2008 9:14 PM

I'm going to spend my valentines day alone and might do what matthew lush is going to do [Be lonely, watching the notebook, eating vegan chocolates]

Posted by: Tenari at February 9, 2008 9:20 PM

At first I had just thought well maybe hand out v-cards to my friends. But then I received an email by Action for animals & PETA2 (About printed valentine cards). And that seemed like a very good idea, so now I'm going to put in a bag, some vegan cookies made by me because I don't have them already made (There's where Pangea comes in, haha, just kidding) and with them the valentine's be good to animals cards, give them around school, and after they eat the cookies I'll tell them they where vegan! So they could see that being vegan is very, very tastey...
I know many persons don't like valentine's day, don't get me wrong I'm not a big fan...but I do believe we can use that day to teach someone about love and compassion towards animals, and that's what I plan to do!

THANKS PETA2

I've already started getting it all together: It's going to be at my house I've already bought a TON of vegetarian candy from economy candy on the lower east side of manhatten (NOTHING of or relating to mars!) I'm also in the middle o baking a heart shaped chocolate vegan cake! i got the recipe from boutell.com. I also plan on making vegan milk shakes (I'm going to blend three scoops of vanilla soy icecream with vanilla soymilk) While consuming all of this cruelty free deliciosness i made a mix of songs from cruelty free artisits, (Pharell, Alkaline trio

Hopefully in the process convincing people not to buy Mars candy this valentines day. It's not what most do on valentines day, but I enjoy it! =D
