You may recall that our dear friend Pink launched a billboard in Times Square earlier this month asking New York City residents and visitors to say no to horse-drawn carriage rides. It's kinda like the old "Say NO to drugs" campaign, except that people may actually say no to horse-drawn carriage rides—when they learn about the cruelty involved.
After seeing carriage horses inhaling exhaust, which veterinarians have shown causes them to develop lung disease of the sort that heavy smokers can expect (And when's the last time you saw a horse smoking?!), and dodging traffic on crowded, noisy NYC streets, Pink jumped at the chance to spread the word about what these animals endure in the name of entertainment. Actually, she already does it on her own, but this new campaign is, shall we say, a bit more official.
Never one to hold her tongue (just one of the many reasons we love her), Pink makes sure everyone knows exactly what she thinks of carriage rides. "Every time I see a horse-drawn carriage in a concrete jungle, I point and yell 'ANIMAL CRUELTY' at the top of my lungs to try to make the driver and occupants as uncomfortable as possible. And I'm blessed with an unusually loud vocal box," she says.
"It honestly hurts my heart when I think of what those horses must be feeling, as far as anxiety and fear, and how unnatural and wrong it is for these animals to have blinders on, trodding up and down on concrete, while taxis blare and people scream. It's absolutely unnatural and ignorant of us to continue this outdated tradition. What about this is romantic?" Our thoughts exactly!
This week, Pink's been visiting the Big Apple to further champion the plight of carriage horses. Yesterday she held a press conference to point out the many problems and cruelties inherent in the carriage horse industry. She also posed for photos in front of her billboard with New York City Council Member Tony Avella, who introduced legislation to ban horse-drawn carriages in the city. Pink even took her message to late night TV and educated Conan O'Brien's viewers last night.
Now it's your turn: Just say "No" to horse-drawn carriages. Join Pink and Council Member Avella in the fight to ban horse-drawn carriages in NYC by signing this petition to Mayor Bloomberg today.

Pink, I applaud you.I know you never have been the quiet type, and I knew there had to be somthing messed up with this industry, but I never could point it out. You have opened my eyes to this cruelty, and next time I see a horse drawn carrige, I'll be sure to yell 'Animal Cruelty' at the top of my lungs.
I think it is VERY cruel too. I don't think I would ever ride in one… I think they should be banned.
I LOVE YOU PINK VERY VERY MUCH I´TS THE BEST . I APPLAUD YOU,KISSES. IN MEXICO CITY I LOVE ANIMALS .VERY GOOD GIRL.
omg i totally agree i live in nyc and i think bout wat da horse must be feelin to be in a concrete jungle like nyc. they prolly get used to it, but its still not right. they hafta walk round in da winter too, da poor things and ppl actually ride in those carriges thinkin they look kool and all. its terrible, wat did da poor horse do to us humans for us to have da right to tie them up and tie ropes on them and pull it to fulfill our desires. instead of going on da carriges go on da Rickshaws* they look rlly kool too, they're cheap and they fun to ride in! lol =)
I agree its so wrong to have a horse do that for hours and hours. you wouldnt want to be hooked on a carage and ride fatasses around all day would you?
I am still seeing horse carriges everyday when i go to school.
This is my first time visiting your site and i must say i like it very much.
Your message was a good read.
I will surely check back here more often!

PINK IS AMAZING! I love her music, as well as everything she does for animals.
I applaud you, Pink. Seriously though, they dont belong in NYC.
I feel it cruel to make them work in a place as unsafe as that.
I am NOT against pulling carriages though. If the driver is not abusive, then it is not bad for the horse. If you think carriage-pulling is bad for the horse, then you must think that riding them is bad for them, and trust me, its not if they are healthy.
P!NK, you are truely an amazing, careing, loving person. You opened my eyes to so much, and I dont think I would be the person I am today if it wasn't for you. I love the fact that you stand up for what you believe in, like you don't care who hears you and I respect that the most. I could keep going with this but I think its enough for one day.
