Mary, Mary, Why So Hairy? November 2, 2007
Posted by Cassandra | Permalink | Comments ( 8 ) | TrackBackHave you heard Mary J's new joint, "Just Fine?" Positive, uplifting, soulful. I was listening to it through my headphones at work today, shoulders jumpin', I couldn't wait to get my weekend on! But then I checked out the video and it broke my heart - fur everywhere!!! That coat at the beginning is so big and hairy, I thought she'd been attacked by a coyote. I'm sitting there going "No Mary, behind you! Look out!" Sadly though, it's the animals who need to look out for Mary.

Here's what I don't get: As a former victim of abuse, a big part of Mary's message focuses on standing up for what's right. Why would she turn around and participate in the cruelest, most abusive industry on the planet? I'm surprised she hasn't made the connection that, whether the victim is a woman, a child, or a chinchilla, it's abusive to make someone suffer just because you're more powerful than they are. I think once she gets that, THEN she'll be "just fine." Until then, I'll save my cash til Erykah Badu's new jank drops November 9th. She's fur free AND vegetarian. Vote with your dollar, y'all!
If you want to be a compassionate fashionista, take the Fur Free Pledge, and let people know that nobody's gotta die just so you can look fly.
Peace, y'all-
Cassandra

Posted by: Laura at November 5, 2007 9:26 AM*I am very confused by the first comment...I do not think this article was written to blame Mary J., but to show that she preaches about doing the right thing but then goes and wears fur and that is not the right thing...I do not usally leave a comment on these things, but I think the person was going on a complete tangent about something that was kind of irrelavant to the article.
Posted by: Jordan at November 6, 2007 12:26 AMthe first comment is ridiculous.
and if de-humanization is what PETA is doing... then maybe de-humanization is necessary.

I hate that
Celeb think that since they have money they can hurt whoever/ whatever they want
I know that there are many celebs who don't (i love u guys)
but, still
why would someone wear fur in the first place? it's flesh, have you ever seen Silence of the Lambs? He wore a suit made of human flesh. That is the equivilent of wearing fur. And he didn't preach about doing what's right while he did it. My respect for her is lost.
Posted by: sandi at November 14, 2007 11:44 AMI am completely against fur but i see where the first person is coming from. Most of my friends will have nothing to do with this site because they think that peta forces itself onto others. i thought i would just state that.

Heads up: By signing up here and giving us your details, we're taking that as acknowledgment that you've read and agreed to our privacy policy.

I understand wearing fur is a way of showing animal cruelty. I do not support animal cruelty, but I also think its just as wrong and low of you to shove it down everyone's throats, BLAME Mary J, and others who AREN'T vegan and whatnot for the MISTAKES of those who DO the wrong and ABUSIVE acts.
You make us feel guilty, and like ass holes. I don't appreciate this, and although I am a firm believer in animal rights, I also feel as if you are taking away from human rights in the process of almost winning a prize from getting more and more people to participate in the fight for animal rights. We have to remember that those with voices should use them, and that is the human beings of this world. We should treat animals with the up most respect, but if you ever saw the lion king when you were little, or went to elementary school at all you learned about the circle of life, and the food chain. This is how nature is, and it always has been, always will be.
Killing and Skinning animals for fur is wrong, yes. It's a horrifying nightmare of 101 dalmations and should be illegal, I do not wear fur but when I read these antaganizing stories not only on PETA but everywhere accross the web, I feel as if you are pointing the finger at me, and thats not right. No one taking the time to read YOUR stories and articals should feel as if their the blame for all the horrible things happening in this world.
Congratulations, you've de-humanized you're own kind. how's that for standing up for whats right.
