vegetarian Lindsey Stahl honor Crandon Wisconsin
It's always sad to hear about a life taken away so early, especially a life filled with such compassion and drive to help others. You've probably already heard about Lindsey Stahl, a 14-year-old from Crandon, Wisconsin, who was shot and killed late Saturday night when an off-duty sheriff's deputy went on a shooting rampage in a house and killed Lindsey and five other young people.

An Associated Press article mentioned that Lindsey was a vegetarian and a dedicated animal rights activist:
"She didn't eat meat," Stahl [her mother] said. "That is what a lot of people know her for. She was an animal rights activist."
She also was interested in global warming, said her half-brother, Ryan Coulter, 12. "She probably would have changed the world, you know," he told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
Lindsey was a big PETA supporter and wanted to come work for us when she graduated from high school. We wanted to find a way to honor her memory, and since she was a vegetarian, we couldn't think of anything more appropriate than to encourage everyone to take the Veg Pledge in her honor. Lindsey no doubt saved countless animals' lives in her life by not eating animals, and I can't imagine anything nicer than to pledge to give vegetarianism a try as a tribute to her.
Lindsey, though we never met, you will truly be missed, and thank you so much for standing up for those without a voice. You'll forever be in the hearts of everyone here at peta2.

That is extremely sad for someone to be in an accident like that, especially such a young person so dedicated and driven to make a difference.
Posted by: Amanda at October 10, 2007 9:34 PMThat's so sweet that her brother said that she would have probably changed the world. It's so sad that someone who is loving to all creatures gets her life taken away at the hand of someone else. Rest in Peace Lindsey.
Posted by: Nicole at October 10, 2007 10:10 PMEven here, at the other end of the world, in the Netherlands this was a news-item. I feel sorry for the loss of this young and wonderful girl. Rest in peace and thank you for all you've done

Posted by: Brittani at October 13, 2007 3:00 PMIt's always a tragedy that the World loses a young girl, even more so because this girl was such an amazing person. Someone said that Lindsey *would* have changed the World, but I believe that she already has, in her own special way. She influenced her peers and her family, with her compassionate way of living. I truly believe that animals will mourn the loss of Lindsey Stahl, both here and in Heaven. Rest in peace sweet child, those of us still here will continue to fight for animal rights, in your name.
Posted by: MissMelissa at October 14, 2007 4:17 PMOh my god. I heard about the shooting, but I never read any of the names. It's sick how someone could easily use break into a house and kill 5 innocent people with no reason. They did't deserve to die. I feel sorry for Lindsay's family, they must be going through hell right now knowing They'll never see her again.
Posted by: Patricia at October 14, 2007 8:09 PMI am in shock by this story. I am so proud of Lindsey for being an animal rights activist and for going to extremes. She is definetely a role model to me, as I am also a 14 year old vegetarian. I will work extra hard for Lindsey by writing letters to companies who test on animals, and by spreading vegetarianism to others in my community. She will be in my prayers as a great inspiration to all.

Posted by: Eden WaLterZ at October 17, 2007 6:57 PMThis story really touched my heart because I too have lost a friend at a very young age. He was just 15 when he died, and one of the nicest guys I've ever known. It's very hard to deal with a tragedy like this, and it will effect more than just the people who knew her. They, however, must count themselves blessed for being able to know such a strong and compassionate young girl. Lindsey took a stand for her beliefs and was making the world a better place. Reading that story and these comments of grieving loved ones is really bringing back some painful memories, but they are important. We must never forget Lindsey and the commitment she made to extending a kind hand to all sentient beings. I dedicate my thoughts to all of her friends and family members, and hope that their hearts will be full of joy again soon.

R.i.p. Lindsey Stahl
always remembered(L)
That is soooo sad. I totally want to go veg for her.
Posted by: Spencer at October 29, 2007 2:07 PMMy thoughts go out to her family. I pray for their healing. I couldn't imagine suffering such a loss.
With that said, I HATE how people have to take others down with them. If the deputy was sick of his own life, he should not have ended a bunch of young peoples' lives. They had nothing to do with him. It always makes me so angry and sad hearing these things.
With love,
-katie-
