Dogfighting is disgusting. It's horrifying that some people actually bet money to see dogs injure—and sometimes even kill—each other. In case you didn't hear about the craziness a little while back, 66 dogs and dogfighting paraphernalia were seized from Atlanta Falcons star quarterback Michael Vick's property.
This morning, in the wake of Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick's indictment on charges related to dogfighting, all of his corporate sponsors, Falcons CEO Arthur Blank, and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell received a joint letter from hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons, civil rights leader The Rev. Al Sharpton, and PETA President Ingrid E. Newkirk roundly condemning dogfighting and other forms of violence.
A dogfight is a cruel activity in which two dogs are forced to fight for the sake of human entertainment and profit. These dogs are abusively trained to be aggressive. Dogfighting is illegal in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. It's a felony offense in all but two states—Idaho and Wyoming—where it's a misdemeanor. Because dogfighting is a felony in most states, dogfighting rings are difficult to infiltrate and are run by extremely dangerous people.
We need your help! Spread the word about dogfighting, and get everyone you know to join Russell Simmons, The Rev. Al Sharpton, and Ingrid Newkirk in signing the statement that dogfighting must be rejected in our local communities. The statement calls on people not only to condemn Michael Vick for his alleged participation in this illegal activity but also to work to end dogfighting in our local communities.
Remember, as the statement says, "Our battle must extend to those innocent animals who literally have no voice or choice."

Vick really made me mad with what he has been getting himself into lately. It is really hard for me because Vick is from my home state. I live in Atlanta, GA, and I actually used to like him, but now I am ashamed to live in the same state as him.

You evil people. I guess the Neanderthal tradition of boxing a wrestling seems fit for dogs now? Promoting violence is wrong and I am totally appalled at this spectacle. Please stop this. Innocent animals are being severly hurt and I will do next to anything to save these dogs.

My mum, dad and I have once rescued a dog from the RSPCA.
A basset hound. Who was previously beaten by her previous owner, and when we got her home, she was agressive and voilent and almost angry 100% of the time.
She was so scared, and after 8 years, we've finally managed to break her barriers and she's the most wonderful loving dog ever!
Again, I just cannot understand why people can find this 'sport' entertaining.
Why not banned in the other two states?
It's vile.

I think those of us that love animals need to show the NFL we mean business: our family is boycotting all football games this fall if the commissioner doesn't act immediately with regards to Vick. We've got a Monday Night Movie night to replace Monday night football and three other families will be joining us.

Anyone who can do this to an animal is CRUEL AND HEARTLESS! this is discraceful to everyone or everything micheal vick stands for! i think anyone who is cruel to animals should be executed! I hope that someone in his jail cares about animals as much as i do. maybe they can teach him a lesson that the criminal justice system can't! just thinking about the he HELL these poor animals went through makes me SICK! for anyone to ever think of this as entertainment is unfathomable. i adopted a dog who was a victim of abuse, and sometimes i cry just thinking about what she went through. she wasn't a fight dog, but still all abuse is the same and should be punishable by DEATH, a punishment that doesn't even begin to fit the crime, but its as close as we can get.

Michael Vick is a worthless, terrible & inhumane beast. I can't stop thinking about his hideous acts against these poor dogs. He should be dropped by the NFL yesterday! He's a disgrace to our society!

Michael Vick - It's simple - HE DID IT! If you or anyone for that matter was accused of this nasty, vile act, and you didn't do it, you would be screaming from the top of your lungs "I didn't do this" - what has he said since this has happened...nothing! He doesn’t seem upset about this at all.
It's ok if you don't like dogs, but it isn't ok to hurt, torture, abuse, etc ANY animal - you sick F@#!
I have been an NFL fan since I can remember and so was/is my family, but if this new commissioner doesn't take a stand NOW and SUSPEND HIM for the entire season and then KICK HIM OUT of the NFL once these charge are proven in court, then I will find a new sport to support. I will no longer wear NFL apparel, no longer wear Nike apparel and I will throw out ALL of my NFL/Nike apparel I currently own.
This is just sickening that people get-off on torturing animals for money and then claim it is a sport! People mention boxing but boxers are allowed to make the choice to enter the ring and box – in the end we don’t wet down the losing boxer and electrocute him now do we. These dogs are not entering the ring because THEY want to!
I call for our government to stand tall and pass extreme measures/laws to reduce/eliminate dog fighting for good. We as a society have an obligation to protect mans best friend (and all animals).
Roger Goodell it’s time for you to be the commissioner you think you are – clean up the NFL and get rid of scumbag players like Michael Vick!

I don't even have to say illegal dogfighting because I don't believe it is legal anywhere or at least it shouldn't be legal anywhere. Mr. Vick apparently doesn't think it is a "big deal" because they are "just dogs". I really hope this guy isn't married and doesn't have kids because if he feels that way about animals, I'm pretty sure he doesn't care about other human beings either. Considering he knocks down guys for a living, he isn't a very caring or considerate person.
I agree with Walter that Mr. Goodell needs to kick out Michael Vick and prevent him from ever playing football anywhere. Mr. Vick also needs to be reported to all animal shelters, breeders, and anyone else who has anything to do with animals so he is never allowed to have an animal in his possession ever again.

In the hopes that it might deter other's from killing and tortouring these beautiful creatures. Frankly, this literally made me sick to my stomach, and is deeply disturbing. Anyone capable of participating in something this, is capable of anything...it takes a real soul-less person to do something this cruel and then sleep at night. I know I lost sleep because of it, but that's nothing compared to what happened to those poor animals.

I am so disgusted with Michael Vick! I have absolutely no tolerance for cowards who abuse animals because the animals cant get help for themselves. I hope he is banned from the NFL and fined by them and I hope he is fined and put in jail and then when he gets out he needs to be on parole for a long time so he can be monitored to make sure he is not continuing with the dog fighting. I think someone should put him in a ring with some dogs and let them do to him what he has done to so many dogs. He is not a man, he is a cowardly son of a bitch.

I think We should let the dogs have there revenge on him, let Vick face all the dogs he abused in a ring. This sounds horrible but I love dogs and I see my dog as a person just like anyone else. Vick less than a person to me now, he doesn't deserve to play football again he doesn't deserve to live.

He deserves the death penalty animals are living creatures, they are born to this earth like we do. Anyone who kills an animal for sick and pleasure deserves the death penalty.
