Stella McCartney's Second Life Anti-Fur Protest and Giveaway! July 13, 2007

I ♥ Stella McCartney. And not just for all of the amazing clothes and accessories (don't get me started on her vegan shoes) she designs although that's a huge part of my adoration. I also ♥ her for everything she does to help animals, like teaming up with PETA to co-host the first ever worldwide virtual anti-fur protest on Second Life. How cool is that?! The week-long protest takes place on a specially created island, which was inspired by the English countryside and features, stables, a lake, bee hives, fields, a topiary maze, picnic tables, Linda McCartney mini-veggie burger stands, and a "live" DJ. There are also Stella McCartney and PETA info tree-houses, and get this, visitors can even "carve" personalized messages into the trees!

There are loads of activities taking place on Stella McCartney - PETA Island until July 29, and everyone who visits will get a bunch of cool anti-fur shirts and accessories for their Second Life characters to wear, including a T-shirt with the slogan, "I'd rather be pixelated than wear fur." Visitors will also be able to submit their ideas for a new PETA slogan based on our "I'd rather go naked than wear fur" tag line. Stella will judge the slogans herself and the winners will be announced around July 22. And these prizes are so awesome; I'm crushed that I can't enter! Third prize is a full set of CARE by Stella McCartney, the second prize is a Fall-Winter Appaloosa bag, and the grand prize winner receives two tickets to Stella's Spring-Summer 2008 show in Paris in October. Le sigh. As Stella says, "Sometimes it's nice to have a bit of humour on serious subjects," and we agree, so let the virtual paint fly!
