Victory: Coca-Cola Stops Testing On Animals! May 31, 2007

Posted by Pulin Modi | Permalink | Comments ( 63 ) | TrackBack

Hey everyone, we've got some huge news for you. We're happy to announce that The Coca-Cola Company has officially pledged to stop funding animal tests! You may recall that their main competitor, PepsiCo declared their commitment to non-animal testing earlier this month, so it's great to see this progress within such huge industries.

The Coca-Cola Company's letter to PETA states in part:
"...We are sending letters to our partners and research organizations who may conduct safety evaluations on... ingredients insisting they use alternatives to animal testing... Recently senior management became aware that research involving rats was being conducted as part of a grant we had funded at Virginia Commonwealth University to study taste reception. We have contacted the University and have discontinued our funding."
Thanks to everyone who has been spreading the word about the horrors of animal testing and encouraging companies to go cruelty-free. Your compassion and dedication are making a difference for so many animals every day!

Maybe it's a coincidence, but The Chicago Tribune Magazine just ran a fantastic story entitled "Ruffling Feathers" which discusses the progress animal rights activists have been making:
"It seems undeniable that, over the past two decades, the ethical arguments of the animal rights movement have caught on with a broader public. Even many skeptics now agree that animals feel pain, should not suffer unnecessarily and should not be subject to every human whim. Their lives, on some level, clearly matter."

Make sure you read the full article here and show your parents, friends, and teachers who give you a hard time! Keep up the great work with the street team, ok?

I'm so happy that companies are finally seeing that animal testing is not needed and is so cruel....Well done, I just wish they never helped out this cruel act in the first place....I'm happy to buy coke knowing animals aren't being hurt.

Thank you Pepsi and Coke!!

That is amazing! I recently emailed the Tribune about 3 weeks ago asking them to print an article about KFC! Maybe it worked, or maybe it was someone else, I don't know. But it is amazing how quickly and efficiently we are spreading the word. Maybe vegeterianism for the world will come in the distant future, and I can see defeat coming to KFC soon also! Nice job at spreading the word guys!

This makes me happy. I hope that everyone else I recently became a vegitartian, so far I like it a lot. I feel more energized, nourished and I feel good knowing that I am saving lives. My favorite food so far is Tofurky sausages. The meat cravings that I thought I would have have not come back and when they do I know that I have you guy and straight edge to back me up. Thanks for being so involved in the world. It is about time people are.

Yay! I'm so excited! I always declined any offers of pepsi because they tested on animals, but now I'm going to tell all my friends they quit! Great job!

GReat, that they will leave the animals alone. Bad that coca cola still contains 5 to 6 tablespoons of sugar in each drink. Bad that diet cola contains a sugar substitute that is dangerous for human health. Bad that the "secret" coca cola ingredients and dye coloring are bad for growing children actually encouraging A.D.D. and other problems for children. But then, THIS is a major step for the sake of the animals. How I dream of the day that children will drink water and pure juice. Read the Feingold Report for a starter!

Yas!!!

Just want to say well done you lot, it's great to hear that both companies have stopped the funding. If only everyone followed suit...

I hope the idiots at KFC get the message that animal cruelty is wrong and won't be tolerated.

I'll keep praying, lol.
