VOTE: What Should peta2's Summer Campaign Be? April 12, 2007

We at peta2 have come to realize that nothing makes us happier than when we're able to contribute to an important decision (like, for instance, who gets kicked off American Idol each week—you know, important stuff like that), so we figured you blog readers would love to help us decide what peta2's summer campaign should be.
The choices are either:
1. "Birds Need Beaks" which focuses on the fact that baby birds have their beaks chopped off when they are days old because they are so crammed together that they peck at each other out of frustration. Basically, chickens need more space. They don’t deserve to have their beaks chopped off.
2. "Too Young to Die" which shows that calves (AKA baby cows) are confined to tiny crates for the duration of their short lives—after being torn away from their moms (dairy cows) when they are usually not even a day old—and are fed a liquid diet with little iron to become the "delicacy" known as veal. The veal industry would not exist without the dairy industry. Period.
There have been a few arguments going on here in the office like:
Paul: "Birds Need Beaks" is sweet!
Pulin: No way. "Too Young to Die" is way better. Your pick sucks.
Paul: Whatever. Your face sucks.

Birds need beaks, even though what they do to the calves is wrong, I think the beak one gets peoples' attention more.

Posted by: Andrew at April 12, 2007 11:23 PMI believe that both campaigns are important, but the veal calf picture tugs at your heartstrings more because it shows the intense confinement the calf lives in, and you can feel his suffering. Also, for a summer campaign, revealing the cruelty of the dairy industry seems more appropriate because that is the time of year when people eat more ice-cream.

I think-too young to die- is the best one because it shows compassion not only for baby cows but for baby chickens and birds as well, "birds need beaks" is only talking about the birds.

I feel so bad for the baby birds :( also baby cows that get castrated with pliers or something like that. People are so damn mean.

I think it would effect people more, and can sort of encompass all of the animals -- chicks included -- who die at such a young age and in horrible conditions.

I love both cows and birds but the bird one will get more attention I believe.

However I do think PETA needs to focus on the birds a bit more now.There hasn't been to much along the lines as that as "We are not nuggets" but, then again Veal is just as bad as foi gras and that also needs to be heard.The eyes of that calf won be over.

The problem with veal crates has already been partially exposed to the general public while the problem with "beaking" hasn't really been addressed

Most people do not see chicks or calfs as animals that get hurt, but in fact both are. But if i had to chose, the Birds Need Beaks one is the one that i would chose, only because most people dont care about chicks or chikens that much. But i must say that i love the Too Young to Die one also. =]
