Pam Nixes Unilever's AXE Offer April 6, 2007

I'm not exactly sure what scent gets Pamela Anderson all hot and bothered—I'm assuming it's the sweet aroma of sweaty rock stars that so many of us have fallen for but I could be wrong...that and some eyeliner tend to work on me in case you're curious, Davey Havok—but I can tell you what it isn't...AXE products. The big wigs at Unilever thought she'd be the perfect spokesperson for their AXE line of men's body sprays and such, you know, the ones that are supposed to work women up into a lusty frenzy if we catch even a whiff of them. I hate those ads, they're ridiculous. I can't recall the last time I saw anything like that happen to a guy who wasn't a movie star or in a band. Actually I've never seen it happen in real life but I've read about it and I've seen it on TV and I'm relatively certain it wasn't the dude's cologne that caused the chaos. Lust and Pamela go hand in hand so I can see where they're coming from, but Unilever didn't do their homework or they would have known that our dear Pamela would never agree to promote a company that tortures animals, which is exactly what she wrote in her letter to Unilever President Michael Polk when she declined their lucrative offer. Unlike many leading brands, Unilever still conducts painful, deadly product tests on animals and Pamela wants no part of it. "The company's animal tests stink," says Anderson. "Their failure to switch to modern skin and computer tests means that, for animals, the 'AXE effect' means feeling sick and dying." Lucky for animals, Pamela always does her homework.

For me as a consumer all these rewards are very confusing. Everytime I look at a credit card deal I feel that there is some kind of a catch but I am not sure what it is. I feel more confident applying for a credit card online from websites that give you a list of different cards so I can compare every point. Lately I've been using
