ANTM Contestant Confused About Fur March 1, 2007

Did y'all catch the season premiere of America's Next Top Model last night? Well, if not, here's what you missed. For one of the photo shoots each ANTM wannabe was assigned a different political view—you know, because they probably have very few views of their own. Anywho, among the topics were anti-fur, pro fur, vegan, and meat lover...I swear we did not have anything at all to do with this but it speaks volumes about who we're reaching with our message, doesn't it?! Kathleen, who said she kind of actually really liked fur, was selected to represent the anti-fur point of view and they shot her on a pile of "bloody" fur coats and leg hold traps, with a "no fur" sign, and a paintbrush in hand as you can see in the photo below.
Now if you're one of the millions of ANTM junkies you know that the judges look for a model who can convey a message with her eyes—they are the windows to our souls after all—and unfortunately for Kathleen, she just couldn't make the statement they were looking for, which could be attributed to the fact that she doesn't really understand where fur comes from. When the judges reviewed the photos and asked her how she really feels about fur she told them that fur was OK as long as the animals were already dead. Hmmm, yeah, designers are always spotted scraping animals off of the highway to make into fur coats. This seemed to stun the judges who then inquired as to how we'd get the fur off of animals who were already dead. And just before being eliminated, Kathleen wowed them with her expertise of the fur industry by saying that animals are always fighting each other in the jungle and stuff...right. Thank goodness the fabulous Twiggy, who is very opposed to fur by the way, was there to enlighten her.

I have no interest in ANTM, but I wish I could've seen that. Is there a clip somewhere?

So glad that these topics are showing up on such widely viewed shows. Not to mention the fact that Twiggy announcing that she is against fur will probably make a vast amount of peope think.
I must admit, however, the "meat lover" shot made me gag a little bit.

I totally agree with you, and also I think the girl who had to portray veganism should've been smiling, and not so serious looking! Being vegan is something to be proud of and happy about after all.

it made me laugh to think how
cluless this girl is. she doesnt know anything and needs to learn about fur. i was actually embarrased for her stupidity.
I tried to send Tyra an e-mail about all of this. I was so mad watching these clueless models, photographers, make-up artists, and TYRA! Just sitting there and applauding the "winning photographs" of the passive and ignorant girl clad head to toe in fur for her her shot and the "meat lover" ripping apart a chicken and sitting upon a table covered in meat about to be thrown in the garbage. All I got back from Tyra was a "Thanks for your message! Tyra can't read all of her fanmail, but we'll send you an autographed picture of her! Limit one per e-mail."
I won't even comment on Kathleen idiot.
PS: Twiggy! I love you, but how could you let this happen? Just saying "I'm very anti-fur, that's not how animals are killed." doesn't really change anything.
I did see that... I laughed my ass off, just because the ignorance never ceases to amuse me. I was with my fellow vegan friend watching it and we both kind of looked at each other and held back our urge to burst out in laughter... which ultimately failed. GOD... The publics not being informed as much as I thought...

She was like, "Wait, what's anti-fur?" PUT IT TOGETHER HUNNY, ANTI, FUR. NOT THAT HARD. I am in LOVE with Twiggy and I'm so glad she spoke up. Kathleen needs to watch some of Peta's videos to realize what animals go through so she can "look nice". I don't even see how people can like fur, it's nasty. Fake fur, pft, go for it. People like her need to realize other peoples feelings, including animals, besides her self.
That over-view was very well written
It was pretty intense when Kathleen made herself look like an idoit,
but Twiggy worked everything out.
I'm glad she got eliminated. I didn't personally like her.
Nothing against the show or Tyra Banks,
Love them both.
I LOVE ANTM, and that was by far one of the funniest moments! I was really glad when Twiggy told her how it really is!
Personally, I was disappointed in the vegan picture. There seemed to be more fruit than veggies, so it came off a litte more jungle than veganhippieanimallover. Still good publicity for vegans!

but I'm not judging, its just my easily amused self. Well, thats kind of odd... How she had her views confused.
kind of makes me want to pull out a "where fur comes from" video.
