Prada's Fashion Week Show Lacked Something... February 22, 2007

So this is HUGE, so huge in fact that I can hardly contain my excitement. It's something I have hoped for and even dreamt about for years. As usual Prada's Milan Fall Fashion Week show was filled with dangerously thin fashionistas and models, amazing clothes unaffordable to most of us, hoards of photogs, and fabulous celebs, but something was conspicuously missing from this season's ready to wear line...FUR. I know, I know, unbelievable, right? But less than a month after PETA reps showed graphic fur footage to Prada execs in Milan, not a single piece of real fur hit the runway, and the head of Prada's fashion house, Miucca Prada, declared that she was "bored" with real fur and used faux instead. Coincidence? I think not.
Behold the fur-free splendor!

Oh, joy of joys, if Prada permanently scraps fur, I'll finally be able to sell a kidney and buy something, anything! with a Prada label.

Squealing with glee!! I hope they can fur permanently! Go Prada!!!
Posted by: Joanna Ward at February 23, 2007 9:05 PMPrada proves yet again that it's the coolest, most cutting-edge (yet always cool and collected) line in the world. What a great example it's now proven itself to be ethically as well. Long live Miucca.
Posted by: Depazzis at February 23, 2007 11:09 PMim so proud! i wish more designers saw the obvious fact that you don't need fur for high fashion! and about those models...ick..im DISGUSTED! they look so sad! be happy! no more dead animals forced on you by your boss! those clothes are kind of ugly=[ i dont understand why fur is nice, its hittious and makes you look like a fat monkey, then you sweat, then get inside and take it off and u got nasty sweatspots! lol. no leather too i hope!!!
Posted by: sarah at February 23, 2007 11:14 PMI wouldn't sell your liver. You only have one of those and you can't live without it.
Posted by: Katie at February 24, 2007 9:17 AMFinalmente! (finally)! I emailed Prada several times telling them to drop the fur from their lines. I told them that, as a proud Italian-American, I was embarrassed to learn that they had begun increasingly using fur in their fashion; that their well-respected and sought-after clothing and accessories were not respected or sought-after, at all, by me and probably countless other Italian-Americans here in the United States who felt that it was an insult to see this sort of thing being carried out by people of our own heritage and background! It was NOT something to be proud of. Now I will email them and tell them "Mille grazie dagli tutti Americani-Italiano che abitano negli stati uniti di America, bravo" (a thousand [many] thanks from all the Italian-Americans that live in the United States of America, yeh)

I think the protest got to them:]

Posted by: Kaielle at March 1, 2007 9:34 AMThat's awesome! I love fashion and Prada, but I'm always upset when my fav. desginers use fur in their new lines! SO UNNECCESARY! The 2nd outfit is killer, and no killing involved =)
Posted by: Brianne at March 3, 2007 1:14 AMIt's really great that they aren't using fur but what about leather? I feel like all designer shoes and handbags are made of leather or have leather on them. It drives me nuts!
