I think this calls for a celebration ... in the next 17 months, up to 400 of KFC's 5,500 restaurants in the United States are expected to be closed down—that would be a whopping 7.2% for those who can't be bothered to do the math. Officially, KFC is saying that the restaurants are being closed because they don't fit into their plans for remodeling. Sounds a little too convenient; if you ask me, I think they're closing because they aren't making enough money, and the whole "remodeling" thing is just a cover story.
Here's the story from Louisville's Courier-Journal. Note that one KFC owner even admits that the stores are closing because they just ain't makin' money:
Up to 400 KFC restaurants across the nation are expected to close over the next 17 months because they won't comply with a strict remodeling campaign ordered by the chain's parent company, Louisville-based Yum! Brands Inc.
Most of KFC's 5,500 domestic stores have been updated under the chain's re-imaging project. Changes include new awnings, chairs, bucket-shaped lighting and artwork featuring Kentucky Fried Chicken founder Harland Sanders.
Richard Schleicher, the area's largest KFC franchisee, with 54 stores, said he has remodeled all but four of his locations and will finish the rest by mid-2007. He predicted that most of the store closings will happen in places where sales are slow and operators won't be able to justify the cost of the upgrades.

YAY!!
"Up to 400 KFC restaurants across the nation are expected to close over the next 17 months because they won't comply with a strict remodeling campaign ordered by the chain's parent company, Louisville-based Yum! Brands Inc."
That's a lame and/or lied excuse for closing. Basically, "We don't want brand new everything! We'd like to stick with all our old crap! We'd rather be shut down than remodeled." What they mean is, "Our food is gross, we torture animals, and the activists are driving us nuts with their truth-telling."
Pwned.

Posted by: stephnaie at December 19, 2006 10:03 AMRaising animals with inhumane conditions, with no regaurd in how they are treated, AND admitting the cruelty will go on regaurdless-- Can you spell KARMA
K.F.C. sucks, animals being used as a commodites---- sucks. People think they can put 2 animals together,----let them procreate ---and there, is their free money.
Thanks Peta, you rock.
This is good to hear. I was beginning to think that this was a hopeless cause and that we were going to be defeated by the heartless meat-eaters. This gives me hope.

I know this is a really old article, and I hate KFC, but come on, no one is actually paying attention to your propaganda, this is all just a part of the business world. The economy sucks, and, as a matter of fact, they did remodel alot of stores just recently, and alot are just too worn down, people dont come to them, they arent a good investment.
%7 of stores got shutdown, there is more than one in almost every major city in the US, the people that were eating at the closed down stores will just go to whichever one is closest, like it more than the crappy store, and eat there even more, and more chickens will die!
No win for you at all, not even in 06'
