Today I Am Officially Cancelling My eBay Account December 28, 2006

By now you might have heard about PETA's campaign to get eBay to stop allowing its members to sell live dogs and cats—or their skin—on its Chinese Web site. For nearly four years, PETA has attempted to talk with eBay officials about the company's policies on the auctioning of live animals, animal parts, and various other animal-related items on eBay China, but to no avail. In the past few weeks, more than 20,000 people have e-mailed eBay through our online form to ask them to do the right thing, and still, nothing.

This has gone on long enough. Not only does eBay not stop its members from selling live dogs and cats from breeders and dealers who keep them in tiny wire cages their entire lives (let alone the skin of dead dogs and cats), but the site actually promotes these cruel items. Not surprising, considering that eBay profits off each item sold.

Since eBay apparently hasn't gotten the message that its members do not support this kind of cruelty to animals, I decided it was time to do something that would make it a little more clear to them. So, earlier today I canceled my eBay account and e-mailed its customer service department to let them know that I wouldn't give them another penny until they put an end to this barbarism. There are plenty of auction sites out there that don't allow such blatant animal abuse on their sites.

Whether you have an eBay account or not, click here to send them an e-mail through peta2's online form and ask them to adopt a policy prohibiting the sale of dogs and cats or their fur on eBay China. The site already has such a policy in the U.S. and other countries, why not adopt it across the board?
