Rise Against's Call to Action July 19, 2006

I just read a sweet article about Rise Against hot off the MTV.com presses about why the band takes such pride in having a positive message behind their music. While some bands (who will remain nameless) are content just to sit back and get caught up in mindless celeb gossip, Rise Against leads the way in a new breed of bands that are bringing punk rock back to its roots of being active, and giving a damn about the world around them. From animal rights to preserving the environment, no one consistently uses their music as an outlet to get the word out more than Rise Against. You probably know by now that the band has recently set a new standard for music with their new video for "Ready to Fall" off their album- The Sufferer & The Witness.

From the article:

"The imagery is more powerful than anything we can say right now," McIlrath said. "When people hear some singer in a punk band telling them something, they form opinions without really listening. So we just wanted to present the images. We wanted to get these images of animals suffering or forests being destroyed out into the mainstream media. And to be honest, I don't care if someone watches it with the volume turned down and with our name blacked out, so long as they see it. Because if slaughterhouses had glass walls or clear-cut forests were in people's backyards, they'd pay attention."

So awesome-I love you Tim.

They are my favorite band in the whole world! After going to one of their concerts in June 2007, I picked up a bunch of readings about becoming a vegetarian / vegan. I began to read more and more, and well, here I am now. These guys truly inspired my life - they opened my eyes completely. They are so amazing!
